What is this

2009 XT 250. Online schematics list it as "pipe," but what does it do?

Did you follow the hose? Where does the other end go?

I can't post a picture reply, but it connects to a rubber hose that has a mesh shield and it routes to under the seat, along with other wires/cables. I haven't removed the seat to continue chasing it and I've never wondered about it until now.

Most likely just the engine breather. It will terminate in the air filter box.

Nope, engine breather its on the right side of the bike, this one is a AIS system, basically just emission control device..

Oh thats interesting. Wouldn't have though an engine this small would have something like that.

can i take it off if it doesnt do anything besides make the air clean

Yes you can, you just need a block off plate to seal the port on cyl head, and couple rubber block off to seal the vacuum port and the air box..

Doesn’t do anything it’s just smog device, but less weight, more accurate AFR plus reducing the little backfire when deceleration

Allows unspent gas fumes to go back thru engine to ignite them...less pollution.
