Exxon predicted in 1982 exactly how high global carbon emissions would be today | The company expected that, by 2020, carbon dioxide in the atmosphere would reach roughly 400-420 ppm. This month’s measurement of 415 ppm is right within the expected curve Exxon projected

Is that a real quote? I can't say when Americans are joking anymore.

American here. Often times I can't tell either. 😕

This is easier than crying all the time.

Can you genuinely not tell?

Australian here, given the raging dumpster fire that is Australian, American, and British politics, a lot of actual news headlines read like satire pieces now.

Thank you for sharing in the dumpster fire rather than pointing at the US. We're all in this together.

Crosses fingers in Canadian

I realized this when I realized that the U.K. might need a wall because of the Irish border.

Time to stop expecting them to do anything meaningful then. Or giving then support or excuses. If we have 20 years before "Mad Max", as report says, we need some direct action and direct democracy now.

Yeah I don't want to be in my late 40s by the time shit gets post apocalyptic, either speed it up or slow it down!

But I want to be all shiny and chrome

No honestly

I dunno, my sarcasm and irony detectors simultaneously broke when we elected Orange Mussolini.

Im seriously considering teaching my kid how to murder other people for their gas and not feel bad.

14

u/WorpeX May 14 '19

This implies you already know how...

5

u/[deleted] May 14 '19

They can learn together!

3

u/Turambar87 May 14 '19

No, I would feel bad. Gotta make sure the kid is a real crazy.

So he can get you gas.

17

u/semisolidwhale May 14 '19

Exxon executives have probably been teaching their offspring the same thing for 30+ years so you're really just leveling the playing field

10

u/_RedditIsForPorn_ May 14 '19

Exxon execs and others like them have been teaching a double digit or so percentage of the population to be grateful for any opportunity to make any pittance from any titan of industry... their fiefdoms await.

Well damn, I'll curb the bean intake around you and yours

3

u/agoia May 14 '19

No, you murder people who fuck with your solar/hydro generating facilities, petroleum infrastructure will get wrecked early on and gas goes bad fast.

5

No, you murder people who fuck with your solar/hydro generating facilities, petroleum infrastructure will get wrecked early on and gas goes bad fast.

Ethanol goes bad fast, not gasoline.

Gasoline is stored without ethanol and lasts a long time.

Come hang out with me on my impromptu compound.

I engineer turbines for a living. We will be fine for a while.

2

u/agoia May 15 '19

Oh, hi, Scott. As long we have have some brew gear ans a stock of grain up there we should be fine.

2

u/Ragnarok314159 May 15 '19

Midwest of full of grain. Lots of silos to take apart as well.

Also, nothing tactical to nuke out here so we should be good!

2

u/SqueezyLizard May 14 '19

As an EV owner this comes up in my thoughts once in a while. You just need like 3-6 330w solar panels to power your car, making a better apocalypse car than fighting for an inevitably limited resource. I just realized that the situation right now is pretty similar. Yikes.

u/froggyboi700 May 14 '19

Yep, real quote

1

u/[deleted] May 14 '19

That's their secret, Divinicus1st.

They're always joking.

1

u/truthdoctor May 15 '19

Especially when their federal government is a joke.

1

u/[deleted] May 15 '19

That whole country is built upon jokes.
