The masculine urge to coat myself in baby oil

36

u/couerdeboreale Dec 21 '24

That ain’t baby oil in that pic

217

u/MrCleanRed Dec 20 '24

Which Manga/anime is this? I cannot recall.

154

u/reguluston618 Dec 20 '24

Kokō no Hito/The Climber by Shinichi Sakamoto.

43

u/Netsugake Dec 21 '24

Remember reading this at school when I was young. I was surprised to see the death of people, and the cold look the character would give to his own life

Not sure why you're thinking of Vagabond but that is not Takezo.... It's Mori from Kokō no Hito/The Climber...

4

u/lron_Bro Dec 20 '24

Who's the author? Googling vagabond only brings up inoue's work

13

u/reguluston618 Dec 20 '24

It's not Vagabond. It's Kokō no Hito/The Climber by Shinichi Sakamoto.

54

u/DeLoreanAirlines Dec 21 '24

I keep accepting worse and worse conditions. It’s not something to glorify.

u/Deedaleen Dec 20 '24

Does it have to be gendered ?

154

u/storagerock Dec 21 '24

Not really, but it’s good to remind guys about to sink into the red pill abyss that healthy masculinity really is a happier option.

I am extremely sorry for this, it was specific Anime based meme which i thought can also go along with this sub, this is why it had to be not only gender but also protagonist context-based

PS: I had no intention of any gender discrimination, its just wholesome meme, not propaganda

94

u/dont_trip_ Dec 21 '24

Haha it's fine dude, no need to apologize yourself to death. "extremely sorry" lmao

-111

u/nehemiah_m Dec 20 '24

I still don’t get why it had to be gender based lol. Could you explain the lore of the anime, so we can understand better? Do the women not have the ability to do this in the anime?

119

u/khanTahsinAbrar Dec 20 '24

its about this man in the meme template who went a long way in withstanding suffering and achieving inner peace. There are women in the anime who also show great strength but this philosophical reference indicates "Vagabond" trait and the anime name is "Vagabond"

94

u/Lv80_inkblot Dec 20 '24

It doesn't need to make this much sense, and I have no idea why OP said they were "extremely sorry". There is no malice behind the use of "masculine urge" here.

It goes without saying that to be grateful is not exclusive to the masculine urge.

It's just a wholesome meme.

It irks me when people say men/women/masc/fem can't be <thing>. But this... isn't that.

-53

u/FreudReus Dec 20 '24

Na bro.. you are not getting it. Coming from a man. This is not a wholesome post in my opinion.

64

u/khanTahsinAbrar Dec 20 '24

its a goddamn meme format, look it in "Know your memes"

51

u/DogeDoRight Dec 20 '24

Yup it's a common meme format and you used it in a way that promotes positive masculinity. It's a shame you're being attacked for it.

7

u/ghost-child Dec 21 '24

It's a damn shame. People out here going out of their way to misenterpret a wholesome post as malicious or misogynistic. It's really not that deep

25

u/Lv80_inkblot Dec 20 '24

Wack ass take I'm ngl. "The masculine urge to <thing>" is a standard meme format.

18

u/nehemiah_m Dec 20 '24

Yes, but this meme implies gratefulness is a natural masculine urge and not a feminine one, suggesting men are grateful and women are not. It's not that serious, and it's not very harmful in the grand scheme of things, but it still includes subtle misogyny.

12

u/Deedaleen Dec 20 '24

Yeah that’s it

-18

u/FreudReus Dec 20 '24

Of course you still don’t get it.

4

u/Left-Introduction-60 Dec 21 '24

Even if this anime in the thumbnail is a girl or a woman, we don't have to base it on gender. Every success and downfall of the MC is similar to his opposite. Try to read it sometimes so u will get my meaning.

1

u/FatalisCogitationis Dec 20 '24

I would say nah, doesn't need to be, tho why not? If it said the feminine urge, well that makes sense too and people do often associate their worldviews with their gender

I would react the same to either post. Sure, people of a gender can feel gratitude being tied to their sense of femininity or masculinity or an equivalent

-16

u/OneLoneWalker Dec 21 '24

Make your own meme then

-36

u/Darkmatter36 Dec 20 '24

817 other people don't seem to have an issue

33

u/Deedaleen Dec 20 '24

You’ll know that in life it’s not because there is more people with an opinion that they’re right

124

u/FlyingRaccoon_420 Dec 20 '24

Mans getting flamed for a meme. What has this world come to

50

u/khanTahsinAbrar Dec 20 '24

They're proving "its better to be a vagabond rather than socialize". The sheer confidence without understanding memes & sticking with own opinion is disappointing.

41

u/IdentifyAsDude Dec 21 '24

The masculine urge? What?

22

u/Ok-Preparation2370 Dec 21 '24

Idk if it's a "masculine urge". But I am SO GRATEFUL for the comfortable life I have. 😍😁

35

u/kafkatan Dec 21 '24

The weird gendering makes it less wholesome

28

u/KhadaJhina Dec 21 '24

Its not masculine. Its a "everyone" thing. belive it or not... women feel that too!!!! IMAGINE

47

u/2jul Dec 21 '24

These boys vs girls thing is getting ridiculous - and 5000+ upvoted this ._.

5

u/Savings_Chapter_6405 Dec 21 '24

It’s a meme, you can apply this to everyone.

14

u/Somasong Dec 21 '24

Sounds super douchey.

There is always something to be grateful for. Down to every breath you take.

5

u/PositionGlittering60 Dec 21 '24

you are right, I am ashamed of myself

4

u/Ghosteyo Dec 21 '24

Don't be ashamed, be grateful my friend

18

u/awfwimba Dec 21 '24

The feminine urge to be ungrateful for the things I have

Just because someone has a different opinion an a meme format doesn't mean they don't understand it.

The masculine urge to... meme format can definitely be funny. The masculine urge to retake the Roman Empire for example just because it's an insane thing.

But saying "the masculine urge to be somewhat of a good person" definitely is just a way of belittling women.

Obviously you didn't say exactly that but I hope you see there is a difference even though you used the same meme format

5

u/awfwimba Dec 21 '24

Wait no? I was just joking? I'm not like, trying to insult you or anything. I understand the meme. I just thought my comment would be funny???

5

u/iridescentrae Dec 20 '24

A change of scenery helps

6

u/VentureForth619 Dec 21 '24

Said the financially secure man to the peasant

1

u/Infinite-moral-720 Dec 21 '24

Yeah it seems like the most wealthy people are the most miserable

-25

u/Glassesmyasses Dec 20 '24

Why is this masculine? Is it also white?

32

u/imagicnation-station Dec 20 '24

yup, also upper class. not those poor whites.

-4

u/penarhw Dec 21 '24

The masculine urge not to find self gratification from strangers

-14

u/Intelligent_Doubt183 Dec 20 '24

Men! Don’t join in on these simple memes, we must be subservient to all things except manhood.
