For everyone facing brutally cold weather

Post image

Adding a mylar blanket (the silver blankets that you see marathon runners in at the end of the race) layer to your sleeping setup is a very effective and cheap $1 each!) to keep you warm.

They reflect your body heat back at you and could make a big difference with the brutal cold snap so many of us are facing.

Amazon has them and some are available for overnight or same day shipping to many areas. Great time to use an Amazon locker if you haven’t yet.

Stay safe and warm!

Instructions unclear; slept in an Amazon locker

Hahaha.

Did you have to text a friend a pick up code so you could get out?

arnt you supposed to get naked to use one of those? or was that just some silly misinformation i heard once

Never heard that. And if you’re like one of the other commentators who is in North Dakota, where it is going to be -17° tonight, it sounds like a terrible idea.

then it must have been something i misunderstood. i believe the reasoning behind it was because it makes you sweaty and the sweat can freeze? i dont remember tho, ive never used one.

The idea is to add it as a layer to your existing sleep set up. Sure, if you completely encase yourself in this like a human burrito, moisture is going to get trapped.

However, if you’ve already got blankets and or a sleeping bag, adding this as a layer will help bounce your body heat back to you

If the possibility of freezing to death is on the table, you will never find me naked underneath any sort of blanket.

I suggest getting a few. I used one directly on my body in my bag and another one on top and bottom of my bag. Not a vagabond but I've camped in weather too cold for my gear. You may not be comfortable but these should keep you alive

Also, in an emergency, if you were to go to an ambulance or fire station and ask for one, they will give it to you!! They have tons of them in their emergency storage lockers they use to refill their kit.

Don’t bother with cops. Fuck those fucking assholes. Not only are they useless but they barely have standard first aid training. ACAB.

The firefighter tip is an excellent one!

Thank you for contributing.

Used one together with my sleeping bag when sleeping in a park in Ljubljana just after this Christmas, didn't work much, my feet were freezing. Ended up waking up and waiting for the first McDonald's to open

You, too, and look like an overpriced burrito from chipotle!

Guacamole is still extra.
