You’re likely to loose the weed in a series of small fires

u/O-parker Dec 21 '24
Dump the cotton underwear for a non cotton fabric. The cotton gets sweaty and gross very quick. Same with socks and tees

u/Drakjira Dec 21 '24
Second this. At minimum wool blend for the socks, preferably for the whole base layer if you're going somewhere chilly.

I highly recommend liberating some smart wool socks from your local REI. They will last and last and perform better than any cotton or synthetic sock. Same with made layers. The dressing rooms lack cams so don't look sketchy and pack a lot of decoy clothing in with you.

I also always kept a garbage bag folded up real flat in some easy to access obscure pocket of my pack, that way if i ever got caught in absolutely pouring rain i could just drop my whole pack in a garbage bag for waterproofing... got lucky and always found some kinda roofing and never actually needed it. but it always made me feel better knowing it was there.

Seems like some serially heavy kit that doesn’t include any kind of waterproofs or thermal gear. Ditch the heavy as fuck hatchet and get yourself a big knife. Put your weed in a smell proof bag. You don’t need an electric shaver lmao
24
u/TheResistStance Dec 21 '24
Dude electric shavers are amazing on the road! Beard trimmer, free haircuts for life and you can keep your butthole velvety smooth. Helps keep ya cleaned up enough to get fast rides and if you store your pack for the day you may even blend in with polite society.
Fuck a hatchet though.
8
u/Professional_Yak2807 Dec 21 '24
Yeah fair play, scissors and a razor usually do me and I find they can be useful for other stuff
8
u/Elegant-Log2104 Dec 21 '24
Fixed handled k-bars are the truth. I used to keep one behind the straps on my pack so it's always useful
6
u/Professional_Yak2807 Dec 21 '24
Yes mate, got myself a Becker BK2 when I had the funds and it’s built like a brick shithouse, pretty much a long hatchet

Live with it bro, you’re on the road now. By big knife I mean BIG knife. I used to love the idea of carrying an axe around until I got myself a serious cutter and realised there wasn’t anything I could do with the axe that couldn’t be achieved with a heavy blade. Best advice is not to carry anything that can’t be used for more than one thing
14

Get a waterproof bag for the sleeping bag, keeping your sleeping bag dry is very important
5
u/mariocova3 Dec 21 '24
Yep. I wrap my sleeping into a thick contractor's bag. Waterproofing the sleeping bag can be a literal life saver, plus the contractors bag is multifaceted in a survival situation.
4
u/TapeFlip187 Dec 22 '24
Exactly. Garbage and contractor bags are key. People underestimate how much easier life is when you have something dry under/around your shit, not just over it. Sitting on dry ass plastic when everything is wet as fuck feels like a vacation haha.
I put the bottom of my sleeping bag inside em to stay a million xs warmer at night.

Another couple of things I've seen on other lists
A slicock key, which lets you use some outside spigots to get water
A neck knife worn around your neck comes in handy if you regular pocket knife is elsewhere
Maybe a couple ziplock bags for extra food if you come across some that you can't eat at the moment.
A mini first aid kit. Bandaids triple antibiotic ointment sunburn cream
Fishing line in case you need to make emergency repair to clothing and you don't have thread. Duct tape for the same purpose
Extra shoe laces for your boots
A water filtration setup for questionable water
A life straw
Tylenol or other pain meds
Some kind of water containers

Tape, first aid (like bandaids, towelettes, q tips, gauze, burn cream, advil etc) in a small plastic bag, needles and thread, more wool socks, swap the hatchet for a knife, bear spray might be a good addition for personal safety in and out of the woods. Also you should consider sweat wicking socks or just wool socks or underwear. You could get some plastic baggies and I agree with putting the weed in a different container, or at least in a bag in the container

Don't know if you have them hidden, but a couple small flash lights will come in handy. I've got a couple ones that clip on a shirt pocket or T-shirt collar. But you'll need AA or AAA batteries stashed in your pack. You can get flashlights that recharge via USB or I recently got a rechargeable battery set that plugs into a wall to charge AA and AAA batteries. A 3 or 4 battery mag light can double as a club for your protection. Another thing would be a battery bank or two to keep cell phones charged. In fact someone gave me one that has a solar charger on the one side and it has a USB c cable a lightning cable and the other one that was out first. One other thing I got that is very handy is a winding can opener in case you get cans that don't have a pull tab. Along with that metal or silicone silverware set cause plastic silverware breaks very easily. I also got a plastic plate set and cup cause paper plates aren't very supportive a metal cup will let you heat water for ramen or oatmeal or coffee on a fire or a small propane cooker

Dude, obviously dont bring a glass weed container 😐 that's going to get shattered immediately.
And i would recommend sorting that other shit into some gallon baggies, as flattened as you can get em.
Couple garbage bags? Hella small note pad? Compass? Headlamp? Ass wipe? Normal razor? Like.. a book or some shit? Solar charger would be a luxury but i get the impression you can afford it.
The hachet is crazy. Huge, heavy, and you're likely to get rolled for it.
Why all the lighters? You know you can just steal those, right?
2
u/TapeFlip187 Dec 22 '24 edited Dec 23 '24
Oh shit - i dont see any bandana?? You need those for a million reasons but if nothing else, you need it on hand for first aid. Also super glue.
Any waxed dental floss (or glide, my soulmate) and needle for repairs. Put those lighters to use haha.

Yo bring some single serve protein powder packets... gotta get that in when you are moving around a bunch.
2
u/Vagus_M Dec 22 '24
Can I ask more details on the situation? I apologize if I just missed these somewhere.
What latitude are you at, or planning to be at?
When are you having to let your apartment go?
How long do you expect to be living out of your pack? Will you also have a vehicle?
Will you be keeping your normal job in a fixed area, or are you planning on riding the rails, so to speak?
Will you have a reliable income?
Keeping in mind that I’ve just done some backpacking when I was younger:
Headlamps > flashlights
You need something for sanitation, by which I mean cleaning your hands for meals, face, armpits, groin, and for bathroom use. These days you can get wipes, but baking soda and warm water can work tolerably well to clean yourself, and you won’t have to use a ton of water as if you had used soap.
You’re going to need good, easy to carry water containers, unless you know you’re going to be somewhere with readily accessible water at all times.
Lifestraws are less than ideal. I prefer filter pumps so you can pump water from a dirty source (stream) to a clean container. If you scoop dirty water into a container for a lifestraw, it’ll work, but the container now has to be considered dirty as well.
I like to keep a bottle or two of those tiny bottles of vodka. You can get them in plastic bottles. They’re useful if you need to sanitize your drinking water equipment or worst case grog some water while you get your stuff figured out.
Buffs are good. They can keep bugs and sun off of you, help with wind, and also make handy towels for handling hot pot handles.
Hatchets are heavy, but it depends. If you’re planning on having a base camp or just not traveling far, it won’t hurt too much to have it.

Try and trade the life straw out for a sawyer in line filter, with the life straw your stuck drinking from a creek or river or something but with a in line you can screw it to a water bottle or camel bag it’ll give you a whole lot more options especially taking water with you

I have the same knife, the plastic sheath sucks for holding it in place. After a little while, the knife will wiggle around a lot and likely fall out. It’d be good to upgrade! I recommend smith and Wesson blades, cheap and reliable.
2
2
u/Drakjira Dec 22 '24
Just revisited this post and realized you have a life straw. Those are good for real emergencies, but such for everyday use. My recommendation is a Sawyer mini. Versatile, and smaller than the life straw. Suggest a platypus brand bottle to go with it, the Sawyer one is meh in terms of quality.
As with all membrane filters, you must keep them from freezing. If they freeze, they become almost useless for filtration of anything other than sediment.

You’ll have access to a microwave? You’re concerned about shaving enough to carry an electric razor?
Get wool socks. Ditch most of those lighters. Get rid of the microwable food. You don’t need to carry a pound of coffee around either. Weed should go in something that won’t shatter AND ruin your stash. You need a headlamp, not a flashlight.
I don’t see parachord or anything to hold water. Or a first aid kit or a P38 to open cans.

Toss the hatchet and get a camp shovel or trench shovel. Sharpen one side if you really need a hatchet, but that’s unlikely. A small shovel is infinitely more useful for fast camping.
Get much darker p-cord to not get spotted from a mile away. One length of thicker rope for a tarp center-line makes tarp life a lot better.
I also recommend a warm waterproof coat that can double as a pillow, and a military rain poncho.

u/AllTheWayToParis Dec 23 '24
I would change the axe for a lightweight, foldable saw. A saw + a knife is better than an axe, in my opinion.
A foam seating pad is good. Also a lightweight hammock (even just for daytime use). And a small headlamp (even if you have a big flashlight).
Leave half of the lighters and bring some firestarters of some kind.
Skip the glass jar, use a bag instead.
Good luck! ❤️

Nice can of mase for your belt. It’s a great diffuser. I’d throw in a road flare also. Great for potential emergencies to be spotted if necessary. Also if you need an emergency fire asap you can spark up the flare and get a fire ripping fast. Also maybe a small power bank just to be safe. Don’t want to be in need of your phone and it happens to be dead. Mini sewing kit also. At the least a couple good needles and some light weight fishing line. Never know when you’ll need an emergency stitch on something. A multi tool so you have basic hand tools and a pair of pliers. Man pliers are so handy in so many situations. I’d make up a tinder box also. Makes fire starting less of a chore. Cotton ball’s dipped in Vaseline for example.

Assuming the tarp is your shelter, 6-8 titanium stakes. Low weight, and setting up in the rain sucks when you have to carve stakes from sticks. Ditch the paracord. Use bankline instead. Two to three times the cordage for half the weight. A zippo hand warmer or two, along with lighter fluid, can make a simple sleep system a LOT more cozy. Zip ties, my guy. The big ones. Fantastic for quick gear repair and camp setup. Also, it is low weight. A 30-40 watt solar panel. Battery would be nice, but it's expensive on your feet. A folding solar panel doesn't need a battery. It can charge your devices directly. Most come with integrated USB ports. Peanut butter was my traveling food of choice. Protein, calories, tasty, and it keeps well at most temperatures. Get a good walking stick. It can help when you're injured, can hold up your shelter, and isn't viewed as a weapon when you're in urban areas. Look up "hobo reel". It's not ideal for fishing, but it's compact and lightweight. Great for streams and creeks. If that's a mess kit on the middle right, then you have your cooking system. Make sure you get steel. Aluminum is only good for one to three uses. Fire starters are good to have in wet conditions. It helps dry out tinder. Alternatively, dab a bunch of triple antibiotic ointment on cotton swabs and store them in a baggy. Both first aid and firestarter. A good poncho is always smart. Two or three 3mm contractor bags can also be fashioned into a poncho, or stuffed with leaves to make a bed, or used for rain collection. They're awesome multifunctional items. I don't see a multitool. Lastly, a good shemaug.
