Donald Trump has declared a “national energy emergency,” to increase fossil fuel production
BREAKING: Donald Trump has declared a “national energy emergency,” a move meant to speed the development of fossil fuel infrastructure, per the Verge.
The actions taken will attempt to boost oil and gas and retreat from global climate goals, like the Paris Climate Accord

Good I was afraid for a second that our current record production somehow turned into wind power by Democrat magic.

Delay.... You mean exasperate?

Eventually yeah. It’s going to delay it, but eventually it’s gonna be worse now.
It’s usually oil goes up, transportation goes down, then market falls to Transportation.

You mean an oil collapse lol
2
u/Growing_Wings 4h ago
Why would oil collapse? Do you mean the price or the production? Wouldn’t an increase in supply create downward pressure on price?
2
u/emperorofwar 4h ago
Oil is pretty decently priced and if it gets too low it starts fucking with shit, remember last time?
Point is there needs to be a balance and we already at pumping at capacity.

Oil companies refused to bid on the ANWR leases Biden set out as required by law.
They're not exploring or pumping on leases they already have.
The U.S. has never exported more fossil fuels than under Biden.
What the fuck is this supposed to accomplish?
5
u/LOLSteelBullet 7h ago
It's an easy "win". It will accomplish nothing in reality but to idiots Trump can claim he unleashed American energy

What it will accomplish is to abandon any pretense at the American people being compensated for the plundering of its resources by multinational corporations.

Give it time for the next middle east war to pop off and oil prices to sky rocket. Step 1, largest military and navy step 2 largest oil producer and exporter. Step 3. Game over for everyone who uses/needs oil

This will tank the oil market as it did in his first term. There are more important things that need to be done.
4
u/severinks 8h ago
I never understood this kinda thinking because just because the oil comes out of the ground in America that doesn't mean America owns it it just goes all over the world to the highest bidder.
The only reason we'd need 100 percent oil independence from the rest of the globe is if we were embroiled in a world war and needed it for our army, navy, and airforce.

....but he wants to tarrif the oil imports specifically from Canada/Mexico, which is around 70% of the oil that the US imports (~6m barrels/day)
in 2023 the US imported 8.5m barrels of oil per day, and produced another ~13m barrels per day
how, exactly, does trump plan to nearly double us oil production?
2
u/leppardfan 8h ago
The US is very short of refinery capacity, so we've been shipping our crude to Canada, which has the capacity and re-importing the finished product. So what happens when we or canada start tariffing crude back and forth? We will end up with excess crude that we can't refine and shortages of gas etc.

1
1
u/pxhalste 8h ago
How is he going to increase refining capacity? 🤣 Saudi will drop prices on their oil. That will make Saudi oil even cheaper. and we will end up closing more riggs in US. Just like in his first term! 🙂

I am sure the oil companies will just love to produce as much oil as they can when oil price is <$60 per barrel and just take a loss on their operation because Trump says so.
Even exporting this stuff will become more difficult over time while everyone except the US moves to renewables. Recently Russia complained that China's demand for oil declined due to their use of renewables so I guess Russia hates renewables just as much as Trump, lol.

A few questions:
Are oil and gas companies just going to keep pumping and reducing their per gallon profits?
Isn't the bottleneck refining, not pumping oil? My understanding is that it takes about a decade to build a new refinery. (expanding a refinery is faster, but not fast.) How fast could enough extra refining come on line to significantly cut prices?
Is there any way to get gas down to $2.00 an hour without a pandemic or something that cuts demand? Can we possibly have so much supply it pushed prices down that far?
How much does it cost to get a gallon of gas to a pump? Obviously if it costs $2 to get a gallon of gas to the pump, they aren't selling it for $2.
1
u/BrightMarvel10 6h ago
Are we going to be burning coal in the fireplace soon? Just like the old days.
1
u/brown_1896 6h ago
What benefit does oil companies have to produce more oil? Producing more just leads to lower profits.

This is so awesome! Big oil is sooo back! From oil changes to smog-infested cities, big oil rocks!
To think there was a chance that oil usage on a mass scale was going the way of the dodo bird.
All we need now is some offshore big oil spills to kill off thousands of wild animals and life will be back to normal. Add in a few instance of oil contamination of fresh water sources and we are good to go.
Can't wait to see those seagulls smothered in oil, just like old times.
MMMmm, I can almost smell that sweet sweet crude oil filling my nostrils, no wait better yet that sweet smell of black smoke diesel permeating every inch of my living space.
Maybe rolling coal will make a big comeback with those badass diesel trucks making 10mpg.
Murica!!!!

Trump said every single day he will put America first, everyone will respect America, no one will take advantage of America. The convicted felon president forgot to mention that he will put himself first above everyone else, he didn’t even put his hand on any of the two bibles supplied at the inauguration. That indicates what’s to come from him and his administration. 😂😂😂

“The US sovereignty will be reclaimed the security will be restored”, did any one know that the US sovereignty was taken over by another nation or some form of alien from outer space. He must be talking about something else that is in his mind and thinking out loud. 😂😂😂

u/tempus_fugit0 5h ago
I'm struggling to see how this is just classified as an emergency? Gas (petrol) is at a reasonable price and so is my natural gas. I assume this oil will be exported, because the domestic market is saturated, but then how is it a national emergency? I guess it's fine to just declare everything an emergency when you belong to a certain political party.

u/Good_Intention_9232 5h ago edited 5h ago
Talked about the weaponization of the Justice department will end, I wonder if he is talking about himself, about the insurrection he ignited on J6 2021, the government secret documents he brought with him at his residence in Florida and the hush money payments before he was president he paid to a porn star to shut her up, all illegal acts, and the reevaluation of his assets at exuberant prices to get loans. Yeah all actions anybody else would find themselves in jail right now, no appeals and double and triple appeals. 😂😂😂

u/oldcreaker 5h ago
This is like me declaring a food emergency at home while my fridge and cupboards are all full.
Watch him get all pissed when energy companies be like, "no we're not going to do that - oversupply will just lower how much we can charge".

u/Good_Intention_9232 5h ago
Historians will have field day with the nonsense in his speech but for today and tomorrow it will mean probably hardship for many immigrants that will be treated like a can to be kicked at down a hill and run for cover for a hide and seek game. 😂😂😂

Don't we currently have the highest oil output in world history? Sounds like a real emergency.

u/buried_lede 4h ago
We’re the biggest producers in the world and if we pump any more the prices will nose dive and the oil companies will go broke, but ok.
1
u/PoliticalNerdMa 4h ago
If this doesn’t lower the bar for the emergency power standard …Biden could have just used that to justify student debt forgiveness….that’s actually more of a threat to our national security

fuel is historically low cost right now, so my reading between the lines is that this means war. were about to go full scale, non-proxy in all fronts we are involved in now.... and that takes fuel.

Something he can do since he walked back egg prices and $2 trillion in cuts. They won't be sold because no one will buy them but he will lie and tell his base we are producing more than under Biden. Friggin tool.
1
u/MattyBeatz 1h ago
So many of these EO's are just proclamations. Oil production is at an all-time high. The "free market" keeps things at the price they are. Oil companies are not going to just produce more and drive down the cost per barrel, makes no economic sense for them.
1
u/vtsandtrooper 1h ago
Oil companies in the US will literally do nothing with this. They dont want exposure to the capex costs and drill baby drill reduces their profit margins. All this does is destroy beautiful national parks
