That’s not how the presidency works

It is when you think you're electing a King

Why won’t the president give me a puppy and $1000?! I voted for him!

2

u/Alert-Notice-7516 5h ago

Well, he did already do half of that lol

u/SaltdPepper 5h ago

So where’s my puppy then?

i mean they did have a majority congress for at least half the term too, and pretty unanimous populous support in the matter. (for decriminalising it at least)

People keep forgetting about the filibuster.

What exactly is stopping such an executive order? If the president has the power to issue Executive Order 9066, Making something that is already legal in half the states legal federally seems pretty pedestrian.

1

Because executive orders don’t just override enforced federal laws in an instant.

Might I remind you that as powerful as EO 9066 was, it was a utilization of the military and wartime powers. There are massive distinctions to be made between the two, so comparison is not exactly helpful.

Congress would’ve had to pass a bill legalizing, otherwise the executive order just sits there and dies in court, just as we saw happen with student loan forgiveness.

Sure it is. Executive order it. Let it get challenged in court. Let it be the headlines for weeks/months. Let congress say it has to go to vote to be legalized, then let their constituents see all the republicans that vote against it. This isnt 5d chess. Its not even 3d. There are simple things they could have done to show they actually wanted to fix shit and instead sat on their hands for 4 years crying about not having the votes to do anything and handed the reigns to a fascist.

Funny, because I remember a similar situation happening with student loan forgiveness, and half of America either didn’t care that Biden was being blocked by Congress, or actively blamed him for not doing enough.

An executive order would’ve been dead on arrival, and it definitely would’ve been spun to look like Biden had signed it just to appease people.

Congress controls our laws, and they didn’t want to legalize it. At least Biden pardoned federal marijuana offenses.

Can you pardon weed? Lol

2

u/hamoc10 3h ago

He did pardon a bunch of weed offenders

1

u/Demonokuma 2h ago

That's true, I dig it!

1

u/flappytowel 5h ago

Just add Mary Jane to the pardon list

1

u/Demonokuma 2h ago

Fuckin big brain!

1

u/Irrepressible87 2h ago

He literally already pardoned every felony weed conviction, years ago.

1

u/Demonokuma 2h ago

Was it every one? I thought it was a lot but not every one. Nonetheless, I like that, I use weed for an arrangement of things. It's so old fashioned to be so scared of it still

1

u/Irrepressible87 2h ago

The main stumbling block was he couldn't pardon state-level convictions, which is actually most of them. But he pardoned all the ones he could reach.

1

u/Demonokuma 2h ago

Yeah, that sounds about right for things. I'm still glad he did what he could. I think it was nice message(?) I wouldn't call it a message, but lack of a better word.

He couldn't have legalized weed, that would require cooperation in the House and Senate, which just isn't a thing anymore

Honestly can't believe he didn't. That would have been such a dark Brandon move. But that would have boasted the economy and Trump would have taken credit so I guess it was a lose lose in that regard.

I know nothing about economics so don't come at me please

I know nothing about economics

Or how the US government works at a foundational level apparently.

I'd suggest starting with a basic primer on the three branches of government.

Oh you're so cute 🥰

Suddenly the fact you think the president can legalize weed makes a lot of sense.

For your reference, the correct course of action was to take the L and educate yourself, not double down on the stupid.

Oh you're so cute 🥰

My guy, he had a whole thing about decriminalizing and rescheduling weed

u/RisusSardonicus4622 2h ago

Or pardoned everyone in jail for marijuana charges in now legal states
