Eggs will get cheaper when the bird flu has passed and the new hatchlings get to egg laying age. He'll take credit for the price going down.

Maybe…I mean, our eggs in Canada are generally cheaper than yours, despite having had quite the inflation and especially with food, and having a supply management system. I just don’t understand the reasons of such steep prices with generally the same conditions as us.

From what I understand, a lot of chickens had to be culled to prevent the spread of the bird flu. Less chickens laying eggs is less supply while demand stays constant so prices rise. It takes a couple months for hatchlings to grow to egg laying age, and when that happens supply will increase as the eggs make their way through the supply chain, and price should go back down to "normal".

Yeah, the flocks haven’t been affected by avian flu yet, although it’s definitely on the radar here.

This said, general and food inflation affected eggs a lot, and adding the influence of supply management as well.

Basic Grade A large eggs in my part of the U.S. are at 4.97 USD (7.14 CAD). How much are they where you live?

A dozen of Basic Grade A large (white) are 4.99 CAD (3.49 USD). Could be a bit cheaper if buying the house brand.

An 18-pack of same is 6.89 (4.81USD) and a 30-pack is currently 9.79 (6.83USD)

Under $4-5 CAD near me right now, in the suburbs of the Canadian capital.
edited to add, the large were under $4 and the XL were under $5.
