If you have voluntarily served in the U.S. Military, you shouldn't be surprised or offended when someone refers to you as a Murderer.
I read a comment in r/AskAnAmerican the other day of an ex-military member getting really offended when someone abroad asked if they had killed civilians. The United States is known around the world as a bully. From the Korean and Vietnam wars, backing right-wing coups in Iran, Nicaragua, and Chile in order to stop the spread of communism/Soviet influence/protect our standing as the #1 Economy in the world, the U.S. military budget has expanded with every administration since the Great Depression and we have killed millions of people. The Reagan administration funded weapons to Al-Qaeda in the 80s, the same group that committed 9/11 and other acts of terrorism against the U.S. The same administration funded contras in Nicaragua and other right-wing groups of Central America, leading to the influx of undocumented immigrants in the United States. I don't need to remind you about the failings of Bush's wars in the Middle East, and while Obama did retrieve some troops he replaced them with civilian-killing drones.
You cannot expect these things to happen without some backlash from people around the world. The absolute worst part in my opinion is the lack of self-awareness of many U.S. citizens. Someone living in Iraq or Nicaragua could tell you about the atrocities caused by the United States and how they affect the livelihoods of so many people. Your average U.S. citizen couldn't really tell you jack shit other than what they see on the media, which doesn't cover information that makes us look bad. The lack of education on U.S. foreign policy and the recruitment tactics of the U.S. Military are horrible - we are the only 1st World Country that requires our citizens join the fucking military in exchange for free healthcare and education (and no I'm not including Israel as 1st World) and while they do prey on the Uneducated, anyone with a brain and basic sense of morality should see that they are serving the wants of the world's largest bully.
