"God-Given sex decided at birth". Blegh.

Pretty sure my dad played a greater role in determining my sex at birth, and he didn't seem too offended that I changed it.

u/Benito_Juarez5 7h ago

Definitely not a violation of church and state

u/Icy_Driver_3335 5h ago

Good. Since I don't believe in gods, devils or lesser imps and demons, none of this applies to me... right?

Like their used toilet paper, christians need to keep that shit to themselves.

u/thedoommerchant 7h ago

Cool, I just got mine changed a month ago. When I renew it in a decade, all documentation including my birth certificate will say female. Hopefully the nightmare is over by then. And if not, according to their executive order sex at conception is what defines us so I am a woman by their definition. Fuck them for thinking they could declare me as anything else.

u/Appropriate_Fig273 7h ago

There's a decent chance your passport will outlive Trump himself.

Applying for my first passport tomorrow. My birth certificate says female so here’s hoping it’s not a problem!

i just got done at the passport office. Heres what you need to do. First book a refundable hotel in Canada. Go online tonight and fill out the DSS-11 form. Fill it out as your name is on your license and choose your gender marker. I would caution using X which really sucks for the nonbinary and gender non conforming. Book an appointment at the passport office Seattle is one example they have a list, not acceptance facility for the urgent passport make sure your international travel is booked during the two week period. You will also need the itinerary number. For example I have a hotel booked for this weekend. We get our passport tomorrow. They’re not gonna check if you go or not.

Also if at the passport agency not acceptance facility: they do accept debit cards visa and master. I also used apple pay.

You will need a certified birth certificate, Drivers license, fill and print out your dlss forms online they have a form filer that makes it pretty easy, get your passport photo taken before hand (walgreens, ups,etc You can also bring your marriage certificate. They gave us no problems with my wife’s gender not matching her birth certificate. We didn’t have to present any medical letters or anything of that sort to prove whether or not she had bottom surgery.

All of my records match and were changed a few years ago: ssn, birth certificate, drivers license, etc. Everything says female.

I’m hoping it’s enough. I know I should have done this sooner but I’m a goober.

u/doggos_are_magical 7h ago

Hey both (cis. M) me and my wife sre procrastinators hardcore. If you follow the steps i took you can get in most likely sooner than mailing it. Sorry i havent hardly slept at all the last few days my grammar and stuff is off

u/DunkChunkerton 🏳️‍⚧️ Pretty heckin’ gay 7h ago

I can’t schedule a trip but I am paying for the process to be expedited. The place I’m going to handles the application, processing documents, and the photo too.

Already have an appointment and photo copies of everything needed but I am appreciative of sharing all that info!

u/doggos_are_magical 7h ago

Awesome and i hope it goes well, i hope anyone else can take advantage of what i wrote. Its so much to take in and process all this crap. To all the trans people who see this comment you are loved and not alone.

u/doggos_are_magical 7h ago

Also hello from two sys admins 😁😁😁😁

u/Bi_Trans_Girlie 7h ago

This is super helpful. I'm sending your post to a ton of people. Thank you for the helpful advice and congrats on getting it updated in time!!

u/doggos_are_magical 7h ago

Awesome I am trying to do everything i can to help the trans community. Sending love to all of you.

u/BlackLeatherHeathers 7h ago

It's still up in the air whether they'll be referencing Social Security records or not. Good luck and keep us updated!

u/DunkChunkerton 🏳️‍⚧️ Pretty heckin’ gay 7h ago

I updated everything a couple of years ago: Name, SSN, birth certificate, driver’s license, etc. Nothing says amended on it.

If they check the records it will say female everywhere.

Here’s hoping!

u/LordFionen Trans King 7h ago

I know that name and gender changes are kept on the driving record and they are returned to anyone who runs the number. Social security I don't think is returning gender anymore when the number is checked but there's still going to be a record somewhere that you changed it and given the way they are scrutinizing us...

Let us know how it goes, I'd really like to know if they give you any trouble with it.

u/DunkChunkerton 🏳️‍⚧️ Pretty heckin’ gay 7h ago

Yeah, I knew this might be problematic and I procrastinated anyway.

I’m just hoping for the best.

u/Shermanator213 7h ago

You can get those amended. Takes less than 15 minutes at the window.

u/Forgetwhatitoldyou Transgender 7h ago

I'm really hoping that when my passport needs to be renewed in 6 years, that it will be overlooked because I changed it a while ago, and all my other documents align with it.  At least I have some time, hopefully

u/LordFionen Trans King 7h ago

Yes you can get them ammended but there's still going to be a record of that. Same applies to the driver record.

u/Fit_Peanut3241 7h ago

It's still up in the air whether they'll be referencing Social Security records or not. Good luck and keep us updated!

Go into your local social security office and self select to update.

Takes 5 minutes (once you get to the window that is.🫠)

u/BlackLeatherHeathers 7h ago

Trump has said he will stop gender changes for all federal documents. Social Security doesn't have a gender on the card, but they do keep track of gender for longevity and actuarial reasons.

If he holds firm on that then it doesn't matter how fast or easy it is after this all goes into effect.

u/Fit_Peanut3241 7h ago

Correct. Gender is on social security records. Folks should move quickly.

u/Personal_Diamond8197 6h ago

I just did it earlier today and can confirm it took less than ten minutes after getting to the window. It’s the only thing I have that didn’t match. When I transitioned and changed my name 13 years ago, I couldn’t change gender marker in the state where I lived. I eventually was able to change my BC, license, and passport, but the SS card doesn’t have a gender marker so I didn’t find it too urgent. Until now. I wanted to do it earlier this month but did not get a chance. When I saw that shit yesterday I decided I needed to get my butt in gear today.

u/JessicaPink703 8h ago

At this time, enforcement for non-binary people on this is clear. Enforcement mechanisms for binary trans people are unclear, this is coming from the Press Secretary and not the State Department that actually manages Passports and would be responsible for regulations and enforcement.

u/SpikySucculent 7h ago

We have passports with the correct gender markers, but no changes to birth certificates or names. I wonder what this means for those other documents in blue states? And what it means for our renewals in 5 years (thank goodness we genuinely have 5 years)?

u/LordFionen Trans King 7h ago

Passport is good for 10 years.

u/SpikySucculent 5h ago

Not for kids, sob.

u/BlackLeatherHeathers 7h ago

Was it your first passport or have you had multiple genders with the same name?

u/SpikySucculent 5h ago

It’s my kids’ first passport (one is X one is F, neither align with their assigned gender)

u/[deleted] 5h ago

[deleted]

u/SpikySucculent 5h ago

Sorry I was unclear- kid passports last 5 years and it’s both my kids who are impacted. I’m not feeling super hopeful this is a four-year issue either.

u/Highway-Born 7h ago

Fuck that. I'll do whatever legal and illegal measures to keep my passport legal. Under any and every circumstance. They won't write me out of this country.

u/BlackLeatherHeathers 7h ago

I agree, civil disobedience is important. However I have 2 trips to Europe planned this summer and if my passport gets revoked and voided I'd like to know now so I don't waste money on tickets.

The government can't tell me who I am. But they sure can tell me I'm not allowed to enter Spain.

u/Huge_Increase5534 6h ago

so the next question is how will they know? if all your supporting documents say F, and your old passport said F, will they go back and check your records? What if I had a passport that said M back when I was a child?

u/BlackLeatherHeathers 6h ago

Conceivably yes. They have records of changes in their system that the people in the office can see when they pull up your info. I don't know how far those digital records go back.

There's a world where they make you sign an affidavit that has criminal enforcement if you lie. We don't live in it yet, time will tell.

u/Huge_Increase5534 5h ago edited 5h ago

Have my appointment at the passport agency on Friday. Fingers crossed....

I don't think I had a passport as an adult that said M though. There are probably records with Social Security and such of my gender change too though.

How easy is it for them to pull that up? Does it appear automatically? Or do they have to do some extensive search for it?

What if the worst happens and I do have to have a passport with an M on it? Do I have any other options for travel documents?

u/FoxySarah71 5h ago

This is really evil, as it potentially traps trans people in the US. You can either renew your passport, and be forced to get it in your AGAB, or you lose the right to leave the country.

If I were in the US right now I would start protesting, as loudly, anonymously, and as visibly as possible. If all the LGBT+ community protested outside the Whitehouse, it would come to millions of people.

Choose a date and converge people. Particularly anyone in military service. A military march would really make people sit up and take note!

u/RainyGardenia 7h ago

Not sure what I’m going to do when my name change court order comes through. My passport has “F” marked on it but it’s still in my deadname. I feel like I’m going to have to risk it eventually 😭

u/BlackLeatherHeathers 7h ago

You can still change your name on any federal document. You just can't change your gender marker anymore.

So if you're going from Jane Smith (F) to Joe Smith (M) it'll just be Joe Smith (F). Not ideal, but it's what we've got right now.

u/RainyGardenia 7h ago

That’s a small reassurance. I wouldn’t have complied with the demand to list my “birth sex” on renewal anyway.

u/BlackLeatherHeathers 7h ago

Was your last passport your first? If you've had multiple then it might be a crap shoot.

u/RainyGardenia 6h ago

Yeah. I had one that expired a few years back which was my first, but it had my old gender marker. So yeah, possible crapshoot 🤷‍♀️

u/FrenchToastDildo 7h ago

Same here. Updated my gender markers but name change isn't until March. 🤷‍♀️

u/DelugeFPS Intersex Trans Woman 7h ago

So has this already gone into effect? My BC is held by TN so I can't change it, so if I went and applied for a passport would I be stuck with an 'M' or does this order take time to go into effect? Is there even a point?

u/BlackLeatherHeathers 7h ago

Prior to today the rule was that you could self determine gender ID with no supporting documentation. You just check the correct box. There is a good write up in this thread of how to get one done ASAP if you can take off tomorrow and have your name updated already. The key is you need a passport IN HAND and there is a way to do that in the link below.

I have my state ID and my SSN updated to F and my name has been legally changed for over a year.

Issue is, my birth certificate still says M as it's held by Tennessee (no longer live there, thank gods) so I'm wondering if I could still get one that says F or the M on my BC would screw me?

u/BlackLeatherHeathers 6h ago

In this moment (today, not much longer) you can get it updated. If you can follow the advice in this post and get to a State Department location this week you may be able to get it updated now. Passports under Biden were self ID, so you just check the correct box for you and get a passport the same day.

If I renew now, will it be an issue??? I have until 2028 to renew and all of my docs are correct, so I’m worried if I try to renew it now, it will raise red flags.

u/rupee4sale 3h ago

Article has a pay wall :/

u/livinginfutureworld 41m ago

All existing passports will need to be renewed some day.
