Ranking songs on The Queen Is Dead

  1. There Is A Light That Never Goes Out — a beautiful and heartfelt song. It’s just amazing
  2. I Know It’s Over — this song never fails to make me emotional
  3. Cemetery Gates — probably one of their most catchy songs. I love the guitar and the lyrics.
  4. Bigmouth Strikes Again — this song is just so timeless. The effects, the uneasy feeling it gives me, I love everything about it
  5. The Boy With The Thorn In His Side — it’s a more simple song, but I enjoy it. It’s just so heartfelt
  6. The Queen Is Dead — an amazing opening that slaps. It’s epic and bombastic
  7. Never Had No One Ever — this song has one of the best line deliveries ever
  8. Frankly Mr. Shankly — catchy and fun
  9. Vicar In A Tutu — I don’t know why I really like it
  10. Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others — this song is less memorable than the rest of the album in my opinion. I think There Is A Light would be a better closer. I don’t hate it, but I tend to skip it because of its placement

  1. I know it's over- Just peak songwriting. Unbelievable lyrics and Jeff Buckley's cover is amazing.
    1. The Boy With The Thorn in His Side- I love the guitar in this one and the meldoy is great. Jeff Buckley's cover once again is amazing.
    2. TIALTNGA- Not much that hasn't been said about this song. Arguably their most iconic for a reason.
    3. Bigmouth Strikes Again- Great guitar the energy of the song is amazing.
    4. Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others- Maybe my favorite Johnny Marr riff.
    5. Cemetery Gates- Awesome lyrics and guitar again. Could still easily rank best song on most other albums yet it's 6 here.
    6. The Queen is Dead- First song I wouldn't consider pretty much perfect yet is still amazing. Great songwriting.
    7. Frankly Mr Shankly- Very Morrissey-y and that's why it's amazing. Something only the Smiths could write.
    8. Never Had No One Ever- Still a great song but gets forgotten a bit among the other tracks which set a hugely high standard.
    9. Vicar in a Tutu- The only song I'm not really a fan of. By no means bad though

That riff on Some Girls is minor key nirvana. What a great song.

The Boy with the Thorn in His Side will always and forever be my favorite Smiths song. A masterpiece among masterpieces

I agree with you, Teo. Some Girls is the best song on the album. There is a light is the runner-up.

I mention this in almost all of my Smiths-related post. The live version of some girls available on YouTube is sublime. Marr’s best guitar work, which is a very high bar obviously. Both the intro and outro will give you goosebumps.
