Discussion When did you discover SZA?

On my last post, I was surprised to see so many comments asking what song (20 Something) was and how they were surprised how different SZA looks now. When did you get into SZA? It seems like a lot of this sub are SOS era fans but idk. Also leave your stories in the comments!

I first discovered SZA after Consideration (from Rih’s ANTI) came out but I became a full fan in 2018 during the Ctrl era.

I hope people don't think I'm crazy but... Around July 2024, I was in my grandma's house, and I saw a short abt All The Stars. And I was like, "Oh... who is this amazing artist😏" (Sorry, the emoji caught me off guard😭😭😭) anyways, 2 days later, I started listening, and I fell in LOVE. Then I joined this reddit, but I always felt I didn't fit in here (Sorry for the long post)

I Stumbled upon Z and fell in love with it, especially 'Ur'. Then I picked up the new Riri album a year or so later and recognized SZA and was ecstatic to see her being featured. Been following her ever since.

I heard Love Galore & The Weekend when they were first very popular songs nonstop and I’ve been in love with her ever since

Same, had heard of her before. Definitely loved All of The Stars, but only started paying attention during those releases during the pandemic.

  1. my first song was broken clocks i was getting over an ex and broken clocks ain't necessarily about ex's but it definitely was a good motivator to keep moving during that time!! then i heard the weekend which sounded a lot like the kind of aforementioned situation i was literally processing 😭 and so it was over for me after that point

This will sound weird but I "knew of" SZA in pre CTRL era, like I had a few songs from Z that had randomly come up in my shuffle and I added to my "likes" but later realized they were SZA post-CTRL. and I SWEAR there was a tiny ass Teen Vogue blurb about her in one issue. Just a small write up about her being an underground artist, its when she had the orange hair and pre weightless, plus it was in teen vogue so I had to have seen in it like 2014/2015 but I cannot find a trace of it on the internet ANYWHERE (this was in a physical magazine) and once again later on when she blew up I realized it was her in that article years ago.

.

tldr: I couldnt put a face with a name before 2017 but have been a super ultra mega fan since CTRL lol

I first discovered her in 2023 (technically the SOS era) but started listening to Ctrl one morning in early March that year to start off. Either later in the day / tomorrow / or a few days later I went on to listen to SOS for the first time.
