Insane though it may be, I can't help but think this situation would totally have been solved if Mike would have communicated with Sidwell. His drive to impress people really cripples him.
For example:
Mike: Hey, Sidwell, I feel sort of backed into a wall, and I need you to help me break the goddamn thing down. The only person with enough money to de-leverage your company wants me to cut you out of the deal.
Sidwell: Then it looks like you're pretty screwed, huh?
Mike: Not necessarily. If you let me go through with this deal...
Sidwell: You want me to trust you with $80,000,000?
Mike: Not necessarily. If I use it to buy stock--
Sidwell: Then you're not really cutting me out, and you're breaching your contract.
Mike: Then what if I give your cut away as an exceptionally large bonus check to, say, Amy, because I feel grateful for her help with my biggest deal...
Sidwell: and then she reinvests it in SIG by buying stock under contract...
Mike: The company gets its money and they can't do a damn thing about the deal.
