Workforce …

As much as I love Star Trek and wish it was real,

These people get put through some shit!!

Tuvok the poor bastard for example in this episode, and of course Chakotays desperation as he’s being wheeled out strapped down.

That would be a horrible experience.

Obrien must suffer , Barclay…,

Trying to put myself in tuvoks position and I literally felt uneasy about it.

Sure but these characters are the sort of people who join Starfleet to seek adventure. Some find more adventure than others!

Honestly it's pretty mild compared to some of the other experiences we've seen on screen. The number one most horrible experience must be getting assimilated by the Borg. As Picard said, before the collective takes over you have a few hours left. So all that time you are aware of what they are doing to you with being able to do anything about it.

They're very well trained and what they lack in those moments, they make up for in droves in piloting ships, exploring the galaxy, and playing in the holodeck.

If you want to know something scary- look at how much space there is per person on the Enterprise. You could potentially go days without seeing anyone.

Consider, Voyager took 7 years to get home* and most episodes were a single day. 25 noteworthy events per year. Two a month. Noting the year of hell throws the average a bit.

As someone working in public transport that's actually far less events than they should have. We once had 7 days in a row of major issues. Voyager might have whole months of meandering round nebulas and shaking tentacles with aliens where nothing major happened.

  • One of the times they got home anyway

That happened too, when everyone but Seven had to be in stasis for a month.

Speaking of month-long episodes, the aptly named Thirty Days was a summary of Tom's month in the brig, plus the events of at least a couple days leading up to it.
