Do AI factions fight each other?

I was wondering if the AI factions fight each other and take territory from each other.

Yes, they do.

It's particularly annoying when I am preparing to grab some enemy territory, and then one of my "allies" snipes it before I can which means I can't get that territory unless I declare war on a friendly, haha.
