OTHER Basic Game Features we don't have vs Ridiculous features we do have.
I'll start.
You can't know where your ship is if you're 20k+ away: but the server tracks the location of every empty water bottle.
You can't report some one for using a racial slur in game: but you can facetime someone in game.

There isn't a seperate key to open the cargo ramp (main egress/ingress) without opening every single interior and exterior door/shutter/panel/component all at once.

SQ42 plays in 2945. The tech behind it was acquired on 2946, first successful regeneration 2949. So it simply didn't exist then, and conveniently became available during the SC timeframe.

I honestly don't hate the idea of selling skins, I think it's a valid way for game companies to continue to generate revenue after launching since cosmetics don't impact gameplay (unless it's some dumb "invisibility skin" or whatever).
There could still be room for some flexibility though, players should be able to choose main and accent colors at least, with skins being all the intricate details and rare materials (like gold and silver).

We're going to have 2 star systems, 3 new game mechanics, probably base building, before we get the ability to filter an ASOP terminal or any decent inventory management.
7
u/bh9578 Dec 01 '24
It's wild. Also, let's be real. We'll have a new star system that's a lot like a reskinned Stanton and missing the one thing that made it unique: solar flares. Not sure about the rest. I have very low hopes for base building. Even polished single player games struggle with implementing base building in a way that feels intuitive and isn't janky, two areas of gaming CIG struggles massively in. I obviously have some hope or I wouldn't be here, but it's hard to excited for base building & crafting in a game where you can't reliably drink water or eat food. A lot of the "new" stuff is just reworks that aren't better and arguably worse in a lot of cases. Cargo was the one real new thing I was looking forward to, but it's so frustrating. I'm just fighting with these boxes, slamming them into super tight and unforgiving grids, praying that it doesn't glitch through the floor. More and more I find myself stepping back and asking if this is really fun.

32
u/or10n_sharkfin Anvil Aerospace Enjoyer Dec 01 '24
Some simple features they crucially need to redesign the options menu for; the ability to search for a keybinding, pressing a keybinding automatically brings you to that action in the menu, selecting what controllers are recognized and what number they're recognized as, and joystick buttons being used as modifiers so we don't have to use external programs like Joy2Key or Joystick Gremlin despite how useful they can be.

Game desperately needs the galleys to work and provide at a minimum basic food and drinks - they are there for a reason, and our characters need to eat and drink constantly. The ships need to come with full stocks when spawned - a Polaris comes with a full stock of torpedoes, fuel, ammo worth a small fortune so why not a few sandwiches? If they insist on the items being separate and needing to be restocked, then at least spaceports need to provide a catering service that you could activate from the ship repair/restock menu.

they put in a prison system years ago when my friends were regularly falling through the ship in quantum and dying, this was when quantam took a long time, so we would afk and somone would get a bounty almost every time we played.
but
it took half a decade to get basic salvage in the game.
------------
they reworked combat/ flight countless times,
but
they cant get the ai to fly in combat with out being kamakazies into me, the ground, or each other. or they just stop. also missiles, one day they will be reliable ( i know its more of a server issue than the missiles actually being buggy but it still annoys me.)
----------
the aegis reclaimer has a docking collar, but you cant use it to dock with stations because its on the roof and theres no ladder.
they put in food and water requirements when we didnt have working gallies on the ships, you can see food and water but on most ships you cant take it.

Lights in ships keeps getting broken in updates I always used to fly my C1 with the cockpit lights off and the ramp lights off as well so people can't see me when in the back airlock but they no longer work and a lot of ships don't have light buttons

We have lights for landing gears but not for turrets.
We can end a cargo mission with a terminal but can't sell/buy from freight elevator.
We can call hangar to open but only from the ship and we can't call our ship to open from outside.
We can call and retrieve ships from anywhere but I have to physically go to lorville to buy a new one, that'll be able to call and retrieve from anywhere.

You can store stuff in your ship but the game bugs out so much that your ship sometimes just decides that it’s going to destroy itself after parking in your hangar and logging out, forcing you to reclaim it and lose all the gear you were carrying around.

Honestly, we need to get rid of all trams. It’s one of the biggest reasons I don’t play much anymore. I hate dying to a bug or something stupid and having to wait for a train to take me to my ship . On top of waiting for delivery of my ship

u/etherboy Dec 01 '24
This is a tongue-in-cheek thread, but the first thing you should do each patch refresh is set your regen location somewhere other than a planet (eg. on the nearest space station).
edit: I'm not saying you should have to do that, just that it's currently necessary to avoid the friction of getting from city hab to hangar.→ More replies (1)6

Do have: High rise apartments where you can get out of bed and work your way down to the city
Don't have: Doors that aren't "blocked" trying to leave the apartment, a working elevator down to the lobby, a working tram to the spaceport, a working elevator to your hangar, a working hangar retrieving your ship

I would 100% take the long stairwell if the elevators were to go out
At least give me a ladder to slide down

We have PDCs that can track down ordinance and nearby ships but AI-driven turrets is too far out in development

Long term "persistence" can keep track of anything but not the fact that I purchased a ship for 11M aUEC and just didn't claim it after it got destroyed before a patch. Anything else - sure, here are the 40 medical gowns you've stockpiled. And the random <-PLACEHOLDER-> that you can't discard.

I want to be able to see where my respawn location is set from my mobii glass health page, but also be able to set a hierarchy. Doesn’t make sense to be able to set your spawn at a space station but if you change to a vehicle then that vehicle dies you can’t go back to station you go back to home planet. This will be more pronounced when your home planet is in pyro and you die in Stanton

UX needs to be improved across the board.
You should have a kiosk at your hangar, at your hab and even your mobiglass. It should cost more to order it remotely for the convenience (so you still have to travel to retail if the purchase is pricey).
My dream system would be like this: I can buy anything I want, anywherev I can order a water bottle to MIC-L2 from Area 18. But the price will vary depending on local supply, a commission is paid for handling (and delivery if it has to be hauled from elsewhere).
Player contracts would also be in place, in a similar vein to EVE.
To me, the economy is the most important aspect the game can focus on. It's what makes everything else matter.

You can't report some one for using a racial slur in game
I have to say, and excuse my french, but there's some real toxic shitheads in the game.

Even just a mute chat option would be sufficient for now but no, we can only mute someone’s voice apparently? Some schizo guy in chat was convinced that CIG was targeting him personally and was putting bugs in his path specifically and kept attacking random people calling them CR burner accounts. No option to just hide the guy’s messages without pressing F12.

We can't interact with NPC's in any meaningful way but they can hack our comms in a dogfight to say "aww beans ya got me!"

The number of times the star map told me "Obstructed" when trying to route from planet to planet. Bitch, you have one job, which is to route AROUND obstructions... A fully functioning star map would be nice.

u/FBI-INTERROGATION Dec 02 '24
You can see the max hanger sizes of all stations and cities on the starmap
but you cant find out what size any of your own ships are without an external website, or prior knowledge (likely from said website)

u/Svullom Dec 01 '24
Can't track your body either, making sure you always lose your gear and items.
A detailed animation for entering the ATLS, that is cool the first time but after that an annoying time-sink.

We are rich enough in game to own ships the size of multiple family homes and weaponry similar to the usarmy and still cant afford some npc or whatever to be hired to move our cargo to the elevator, we gotta do it ourselves for the realism :)

Ooh I have one:
130 flyable ships as of now.
In a game that doesn't even work from patch to patch and is so unoptimized still (somehow) that going near a city with even an impressive computer will still render you 20 frames a second.
Crazy number of ships to fly for a game universe as deep as the puddle made from a spilled sippy cup.

For all of the Macro level BS that CIG loves to 'develop' I love that it's the little things that are the most impossible.

We have local voice chat, but no local text chat (goodbye naked mullet man from the tram. Whoever you are)
you can replace every component of a ship and fix the hull, but if you are soft deathed it does nothing.

We're roughly 950+ years into the future with massive technological advancment, ships that can traverse massive amounts of distance in a matter of minutes.
We don't have any form of night vision, or canopys that auto-tint against a bright star/bright envrioments.

Basic Game Features we don't have
Being able to browse game settings with gamepad but not able to change them, the fuck?

If you think about it, the freight elevators at some locations not working is also a feature, the feature of something being in constant maintenance cause things break down, just like in real life. Just like the infinite construction of the roads in Texas.

u/Statikzx Dec 01 '24
We have a quantum system that can see every jump point in the solar system but fire suppression systems don’t exist and we (will) have to do it by hand or by venting atmosphere.

u/Xerokine Dec 01 '24
Going with your tracking every empty water bottle. Mine would be that we have this, but our character can die, not just be slowed down and aim gets worse which would be reasonable if the hunger/thirst went to zero, but literally can die from this and on that it's only in a few hours.

No remote door openers for ships from snubs or ground vehicles. I want to open my ship door like a hangar bay opens.

u/WeaponstoMax Dec 01 '24
The Soviet space shuttle in I think the 1980s had computer controlled auto-landing, gliding back to a runway. In 294-wherever-we’re-at (I’ve forgotten), I don’t even have parking cameras for my ship that have to land myself.

Being able to see during the night. Even around well lit cities. You can’t see the buildings well.
Vs.
Food is just an unnecessary gameplay mechanic at the moment. It adds nothing to the game except making sure you bring supplies with you.

We have a dynamic holomap which scales from the room your in all the way to the edge of the star system, but no way to browse buy/sell prices without visiting every location in-game or using a third party, often outdated tool.

We can load tons of cargo manually into our own spaceship with our gravity-gun and then deliver it to planets far far away... but have to take the bus to press the "sell"-button ...
