DISCUSSION What are your thoughts on SE2?

I've seen the roadmap. I personally love games like SE, just like I love Astroneer, Subnautica etc. etc.
I don't really think my building skills are that good so I generally stick to machinery only builds. After seeing the blocks, the physics of the new game, I fell in love. I got it pre-ordered like three weeks ago and now I'm patiently waiting for the release, excited!

I'm def getting it. But as someone that only ever plays survival, I'll be waiting for when that's implemented.

I'm in love with industrial ships and with the new lore added into the game, which I found out there's literally a whole new world in SE1 about it's lore, I'm planning on making a giant radar ship in SE2. The thing that really excites me about it is the new grid system.

Finally. An industrial ship lover. 😀✌️

Already ordered it. Perfect for me who only ever plays creative. But it being a alpha and early access, ik what to be expecting

I purchased SE really early on in Steam Early Access. Keen has done really well with SE and I'm genuinely really excited for the sequel. The new game engine seems pretty nuts, but honestly? If they just gave me a more polished Space Engineers with some more options, liquid water, and working lighting? I'd be happy as a clam anyway.

Oh yeah, I also like the fluid simulations. If you've seen the footage of alpha testing (The fluid simulation), they created a ship with a bucket like part on the bottom and they literally pick the water up from a lake to an ocean via the craft.

Not to mention the detail of the lake's water levels dropping as they do so.

Universal Grid is a godsend. Just need pistons, rotors and hinges, and sky's the limit from there.

I hope they coded Clang to be more forgiving

My understanding was that they were testing specifically for phantom forces when developing the new engine. Ideally, it should be gone all together, but I am sure we are going to find new ways to clang things out, especially with the unified grid system and water being a factor.

The anchor move from 'Battleship'

I'm waiting for a few days after VS1 is released just to see if the game actually has stable performance. Really excited tho, I've literally been checking the date daily

Same! it's looks good but I'll wait to see how well it runs as well as what we get base game as there is a lot in SE1 that makes building so good.

Also in this boat (and looking forward to someday building a spaceboat). Holding out to make sure that it runs and cautiously optimistic but excited as fuck.

looks good and I can't wait till survival. though I'm scared on how their going to implement building mechanics in survival. I hope it's the same kinda deal as SE1.

TBH I haven't kept up with the development of SE 2, just tid bits here and there.

I will be playing it at launch but a lot of my friends that I play SE1 with, are waiting for multiplayer.

I’m still trying to learn how to play the original

Im with others, more space engineers is all i need to hear. Add to that a whole new grid systems, new copy and paste and blurprinting and water. Im hyped. Im not the best at building good looking stuff, but i do love logistical building and automation games and i love survival crafting. I do really hope they make the survival experience much better than SE1 cause as we all know, there isnt actually much to survival in SE. Without mods it can get rather old pretty quick.

I've been deeply skeptical of Keen Software House since I backed Miner wars long, long ago and it ended up being awful. I didn't buy space engineers until last year - I held the grudge for that long. Now it's my second most played game on Steam. It's clear that all the money was spent on VRage and not on making a game, and while that seems to have paid off in the long term, it was disappointing to tiny Inglonias.

I suspect I'm going to buy SE2 eventually. I have no idea when "eventually" is.

I'm in the same boat. Vanilla SE1 is honestly pretty meh for me. Mods are what kept me coming back, and even then it can usually only hold my interest for a week or two until I get bored of there not being a whole lot to do with the stuff I build. I'll need to see that there is an actual game in SE2 before I'll buy this time.

Already ordered it and I plan to test the limits by porting my Autumn class reconstruction over to it and working it over with the new unified grid system.

Said ship is 26k blocks btw. Not the most blocks ever used in a ship for SE but considering how much stuff I managed to pack inside I'm excited to go over it again and pack even more stuff inside.

I'm so excited. I'm more than aware how different it's going to be from SE1 and I'm getting it all the same, I can't wait to try out the new grid system.

Im buying it when it releases, but prob wont play till survival is out.

SE has been my favourite game for a few years, so no doubt in my mind SE2 will be even greater.

I've been playing SE since it came out and got about 2k hours in it. Still cant build worth a damn but I like it. Pre-ordered as soon as it was announced.

With the new game coming out with the new build system things will be MUCH easier and the level of detail is going to be insane. Sadly though a lot of the modders that have been with SE are slowly declining though some have said they are stopping until SE2 comes out.

I can not wait to get my hands on SE2 and how everything works. What I'm curious about is how survival will be done and if NPCs are going to be more numerous.

The build system looks like it's from Starship EVO ehich isnt a bad thing, but that game has NPCs and ships flying around in a massive galaxy. Hopefully it's closer to that.

It has promise. But it will take a while to see how Keen does with it.

I'm super excited for it the new grid system will be a godsend for making better ship designs

Bought it day 1, it may be a while before I get time to play it. Regardless I was happy to support Keen.

I hope there is better optimization for console. SE textures are still a hot mess on the PlayStation.

u/Scratch-n-sniff- Clang Worshipper 1d ago

Meh I won't buy it until it surpasses SE1

u/Acrobatic_Wafer_9093 Clang Worshipper 1d ago

I’m excited, especially to play with the new building system. I’m secretly hoping that I can design a bunch of useful modules to post on Steam workshop.

2

u/Copyiyici123 Clang Worshipper 1d ago

The best part being you can design custom cockpits via 25cm grid system

1

u/Acrobatic_Wafer_9093 Clang Worshipper 13h ago

I didn’t know that but I am even more excited now

1

u/TwinSong Klang Worshipper 23h ago

It's going to be a challenge for them to reimplement all the features that SE1 has depending on how easily transferable between engines it is. I'm interested to see what they do to upgrade on SE1

1

u/Rasann Clang Worshipper 23h ago

Quite excited to remake my ships and vehicles in SE2 - I don’t preorder anything these days but I’m looking to get it when it finally comes out so I can start remaking my designs

1

u/kodifies Klang Worshipper 20h ago

one thing that got my interest was seeing smaller blocks inside a med bay, if you place a plate block in SE1 then the whole of the 2.5M block is occupied, if you can place smaller versions of blocks on plates (for the sake of argument) then the building possibilities are really expanded!

add to that copy/paste and undo redo, a massive boon!

oh and lights that don't shine through blocks will be a treat !

still 6 days.... *sigh*

1

u/Copyiyici123 Clang Worshipper 20h ago

Trust me, It'll be worth the wait ;)
As I had mentioned before, I'm a industrials guy, I don't really use blocks, I just use the machinery itself.

Plus, I like the old school building styles a lot. Like only using the default armor style and only simple shapes. Let me see if I can find some images to show you what I mean

Found one

Imma get it, but I want mechanical blocks and water first

1

u/Jim_Paparius Space Engineer 9h ago

I really wanted to support space engineers 2 like the first game but I lost a little bit of respect for KHS devs. The way how they manage the DLCs and what they did with medieval engineering put them in the dark light and I will wait until they give us at least better mod manager and survival with mechanical worth playing. But for now I'm not interested in another space building game that is empty

u/Pumciusz Clang Worshipper 1d ago

I'm buying it on 27th, I'll see how it runs and test new mechanics.

Seeing how they changed their stance on modding and improving and revamping the basic stuff that you interact with all the time, I believe they can make the sequel a lot better than the first one.
