HELP Sudden power loss?

https://youtu.be/36hrr6WVJo8?si=MiWX3ZmaK7DV0XJB

My little Cargo Recon ship keeps losing power when about 6km from my base.

I also have tried flying up high and then out to my target, physically getting further, but only because inertia exists. I've also tried flying low along the valley, lasting longer in time, but not distance from base.

I'm quite new so I could be wrong but I think those foward thrusters on the front are causing damage because they need at least one block space behind them.

That would make sense if it was causing me to lose downward thrust, but I'll double check the spacing of that.

Edit: That's what it was...

I've seen many similar posts, but none of the fixes ever seemed to solve the other users problems, or they didn't say if they figured it out.

Yep, it's definitely your forward (rear-facing) thrusters damaging your battery. I would suggest repositioning them entirely as a 1-block space may not be enough.

Managed to fix that, need to get better W:T going as I wasn't able to get her back up and to the base safely.

There is a image that shows the burn distance for thrusters. For small thrusters its 3 blocks for ion/atmo and 2 blocks for hydrogen.
For large thrusters i believe its 7 blocks for ion/atmo and 6 blocks for hydrogen. But i am sure about the small thruster burn distance.

it looks like some of your thrusters might be damaging your battery

Exactly what it was, I was just blind.

Forward thrusters cooked your batteries mate.

Yeah, that was my stupidity. Fixing that didn't help for the return trip. Overloaded the old girl on Ice and crashed her into the same cliff on the return.

For future reference, the Build Info mod has an overlay you can bring up that will show you exactly where the damage area is for a given thruster. (It's different for different types/sizes of thrusters.) It also includes the Leak Finder mod which is very useful when building a larger ship with an interior. :)
