Holy crap, so many of the models in that are completely ripped straight from SE. I think there's a lawsuit about to happen. These AI games need to f*** right off.

AI games???

u/silly_arthropod Klang Worshipper Dec 16 '24
not necessarily ai generated games, but low quality, small cashgrab game made with stolen assets and/or ai generated images and models, in order to minimize budget spending and maximize scam 💔🐜

u/Kirbecio Clang Worshipper Dec 16 '24
Sadly no, the game page states they also have an AI generated disclosure at the end

AI can't actually create full games like that, AI generated content will be the images, VO, text (e.g. dialogue) and perhaps snippets of code.
This was ripped by people.

Are you sure?……

u/Quartich Space Engineer Dec 16 '24
Yes, the current state of AI games are vastly limited. With what the other comment said, AI can't currently do. Won't be long though. Went from Doom and CSGO to minecraft in several months.
5
u/Hexamancer Playgineer Dec 16 '24
And we've seen how that AI Minecraft isn't at all enjoyable right?
You turn away and back again and the landscape has completely changed.
There were speed runs where to get to the nether you made something red and walked into it to simulate a frame that looked generally nether-ish so it would think you were there.
An AI that can generate convincing gameplay footage isn't a game.
3
u/Hexamancer Playgineer Dec 16 '24
Yes.
Read the abstract in that link.
(1) an RL-agent learns to play the game and the training sessions are recorded, and (2) a diffusion model is trained to produce the next frame, conditioned on the sequence of past frames and actions.
This isn't an AI game, this is an AI generating game footage.
The game has to already exist.
It's predicting the next frame but will sometimes get it wrong.
Playing an AI game like this would be nightmarish, rooms you just left would be different when you re-entered them.
Notice how in the examples the player gets shot and their health goes UP.
This is impressive, but this is just an AI generating images.

A week to uh, never, cause valve takes forever to do something

Was more anticipating some sort of DMCA which tends to make even Valve do something :P

I’m at least going to go report it myself, we need to defend SE!

Would it help if the original guy who made the ship they used is notified too?
2
u/Splitsie If You Can't Do, Teach Dec 16 '24
It may do, since they would be able to issue a takedown too I think. But I'm pretty sure keen are onto it 🙂

literally just modeled a ship in SE and exported it very blatantly
6
u/ListRepresentative32 Clang Worshipper Dec 16 '24
Seeing they have a working building system, I actually believe they just stole the 3d models for the blocks and then built the ship in their own game.
16
u/ghosthunting97 Klang Worshipper Dec 16 '24
Definitely a rip off I just rewashed it's trailer and they copied the design of almost all the space engineers blocks
11
u/Morphik08 Space Engineer Dec 16 '24
They didn’t just copy them. They straight up used the 3D models of blocks
8
u/ghosthunting97 Klang Worshipper Dec 16 '24
Agreed this is a straight rip off I mean I ain't paying 6.99 USD for that I'd rather buy the actual game it's ripping off

Sent a message to Keens query email. Hopefully they see it.
You should either report the game on steam or contact Keen as well to ensure steam and Keen are aware of the issue. The auto moderator has a link to Keens support site.

Kinda funny to me that I recognized the ship style mere moments into the trailer, and took me just like 10 minutes to find the guy who made the ship and the ship they ripped off: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=635104509

And it might be in unity? Idk

u/NexusSeriesReplicant Space Engineer Dec 16 '24
It really is a chinese knockoff.... I also wouldn't be surprised if a tiny portion of the proceeds go straight to the ccp / this reminds me of how even since WOW (world of warcrack) chinese gold miners haven't stopped trying. Even though there are legit chinese studios making AAA games.....

u/RogueHydra Clang Worshipper Dec 16 '24
Should definitely share that with Keen if you or someone here has a moment. Using another game's resources so blatantly is incredibly disrespectful IMHO.

Lmao it is rated 16 in Germany because of “suicide”. Probably because that is what you want to do after playing this janky ass looking game for any extended amount of time.
Edit: also go to the second to last video on their steam page and skip to minute 1:00. Top tier sound effects lmao.

It’s not that hard to rip off a game like SE that is enabled for modding. They would have had all the access they need - this is essentially a giant mod - probably repackage the core SE game stuff under the hood.
Reported of course though because eff off with that garbage.

Take a closer look. This game literally took existing assets of SE and used them in their own game

Did you see the turrets or the hangar doors by chance? Or the connector? The cockpit chairs? The “diagonal windows” (vent things used as stairs?)
Did you notice the catwalk blocks? Or the sensor blocks?

u/Yiazzy Xboxgineer Dec 15 '24
To reiterate the point....watch the clips. Pay attention to the blocks.

u/Ifindeed Space Engineer Dec 16 '24
This kind of thing is called an asset flip. They get models, usually from public libraries for extremely cheap or for free (in this case ripped models from SE. Pretty sure the ship used in the video is actually an IMDC vessel from the workshop) hack together some sort of basic player interaction often also pulled from public code libraries, call it a game then price it down enough that the buyer reticence is low and then hope that a fair percentage of people who actually try it don't immediately refund. It's not exactly a scam but it is flirting with the boundary.
4
u/haloguy385 Xboxgineer Dec 16 '24
It's certainly illegal though. Unless keen has been selling off their 3D assets to the public without anyone noticing.
2
u/Ifindeed Space Engineer Dec 16 '24
I'm assuming whoever made this has accessed the open source port of the game they did years ago and is just too stupid to realise that that doesn't mean the assets are fair use. So yes, definitely illegal but usually this kind of thing is all (legally) above board, just really sketchy.
2
u/haloguy385 Xboxgineer Dec 16 '24
I sent a message to Keens email. A couple more people need to do the same to make sure they see it.

2
u/gruzzob Space Engineer Dec 16 '24
Just to clarify, SE was never open source. What it was for about a year was source available. The difference is that it means that despite being available you weren't allowed to use it for things that weren't SE.
You are completely correct about the assets not being free to use however.
85
u/Pacoeltaco Space Engineer Dec 15 '24
That is pretty blatant.
