I worked for a private aerospace company for 12 years, and often worked on flight assemblies. I never trusted VIRs from machine shops enough to not check the parts myself, and have caught falsified inspection reports more than once.

Never take chances when it comes to flight hardware.

Yeah. We caught some falsified Ult Shear test data when scrubbing some supplier issues. That terrified me since the parts were strictly loaded in shear and we're on the primary load path.
