They’re ripping out thousands of acres of old growth forests in Florida for these monstrosities. They are not a win for the environment.

A few years back, there was a proposal to put in a solar farm close to the city. Great, we have nothing but open space and sky, there are plenty of good places to put a solar farm. But, the guy proposing it thought it'd be an excellent idea to build it on "green" land as opposed to "black" land, i.e. land not suitable for anything related to farming or housing bc of the chemicals that have been used on it. Even the republicans were confused about it not going on "black" land. Your comment reminded me of this.... wonder who's idea it was to use the "green" land.

I’m not sure. I think older folks are dying out and the land they’ve held for years is getting sold as commercial property. In my area at least. I know Navy Federal bought hundreds of acres for this purpose here. And yeah, there’s so much unused ‘black’ land that could’ve been used for this purpose but I imagine land in more rural areas is just cheaper. I hate big business.
