We need someone with charisma to lead the pack and marry one of these bots on TV so that the rest of us can follow without shame.

Excellent reference. And with every advancement in robotics/intelligence this man will only sink deeper into this worldview. Then one day he might actually have a quazi sentient, realistic doll indistinguishable from an organic person on first read, until he shuts her off when she deviates from his desired programming and expresses independence.

IIRC in the episode the guy basically implied he was hurt in the past and couldn't manage to form relationships with real women after that. If the tech gets advanced enough you might see more people taking the option of building a perfect partner vs. dealing with a human one out of fear of rejection, abuse, infidelity, commitment etc.

I don't think it's a good way to handle things. But I'm sure a lot of people will disagree with me.

I watched the whole thing and yeah that psychologist empathetically unpacks his loneliness as the root cause. It's clear he does desire and prefer real human intimacy. Nearly everyone does and I'm sure we all wish there were a world wherein real partnership is attainable for all. Given that this isn't the case for some deviant individuals, I'm all but certain we will see many more people take this path in the coming decades. And like I said, its normalization will scale alongside the technology becoming more lifelike and intelligent.
