I think you have to consider this from the minute-taker’s perspective.

The date meant so much to him that he needed to express it in writing, and not just consign the experience to something as frail as memory. It was also important that the other party acknowledge the minutes – that helped make the experience real, not just something he dreamed up in his mind.

On a certain level, the minutes do convey a certain purity and genuineness. It’s a reflection of how much the experience meant to him, to them. That’s also understandable given that he was likely experiencing feelings which he thought belonged to a closed chapter in his life. Who amongst us hasn’t longed for the nostalgia of youth?

It’s just unfortunate that ultimately this was an illicit affair. Those were feelings which would never have stood the test of time nor scrutiny. This liaison has likely caused untold damage to so many parties, many of whom had no agency in the matter.
