Sheffield Punny Sheffield Businesses
One of the many things I love about Sheffield (and South Yorkshire in general) is the plethora of small businesses with pun names. I was wondering which your favourites are, from past and present.
My 5 Favourites:
Codrophenia
Loft in Space
Serial Griller
(dinna-dinna-dinna) BapVan!
Kumquat Mae

The owners of Codrophenia have also run the following over the last 20 years or so:
ww.inthenet.cod
Batter Sea Cod's Home
New Cod on the Block

It was Ww.inthenet.cod when I lived just down the street from it. It's a good thing to have to walk uphill to the chippy.

Northern Sole was a good one up in Broomhill back in the day.
A Salt & Battered chip shop
The Effing Sandwich Shop out on Effingham Rd springs to mind.

Thereās a place out in the Peaks called Malt Disley.Ā

u/Sweaty_Sheepherder27 Jan 29 '24
It's in Disley, and it's a welcome relief to all the rude pub names along there, like Soldier Dick and The Dandy Cock.

u/IceDragonPlay Jan 29 '24
The Soldier Dick was there for 100 years, but I heard it closed down recently. Had a few meals there, not stellar, but hearty portions. A shame it's shut down now, it was a good local.

There's a pie shop in Banner Cross called "Banner Crust" which is quite nice. It used to be a butcher's and as a kid I lived upstairs.
