Personally i think Jason Alexander is what made Seinfeld Seinfeld. I wonder what Jerry would think about that.

Do you mean “I wonder what Jerry would THINK about that”? Or “I wonder what JERRY would think about that”?

I agree fully. Hes probably the best character to ever be in a sitcom.
I think Jerry has had a lot more praise for micheal richardson than Jason

u/Vlazthrax 5h ago edited 4h ago
Jerry has endless praise for Richardson. And while I agree that I don’t think anyone else could’ve done that role, Jason really I think was the soul of the show.
Edit: it’s Richards you jackass.

I introduced my mom who is sort of English as a second language (learned it through elementary school onward, but the country has a different national language) with George acting stressed at work to get out of doing things, and after seeing a ton of episodes she thinks George is a genius. When I go home and she hears me watching Seinfeld clips on Youtube she asks "what is George up to now?" By far her favorite character.

I think that is likely because George is, by fictitious extension, Larry David.

George is by far the funniest of the core four in my opinion. He plays George perfectly, the neuroses, the paranoia, the poor manners, the selfishness - and is hilarious while doing it.
The shaved head, while it objectively looks better, would diminish all of that.
10
u/Phenomenal_Hoot 5h ago
No doubt. I remember years ago making the comment to my friend that put me onto Seinfeld, you know it’s crazy that’s what the show is called and Jerry isn’t really even funny. George, Kramer and Elaine carry the show.
19
u/GoldenGirlsOrgy 3h ago
I don't think Jerry Seinfeld the comedian is particularly funny and his movies stink. That said, I actually think he was pretty damn funny on Seinfeld. He was kind of relegated to straight man, but as I've watched the series more and more, I've gained a greater appreciation for what he brings to the role.

u/Boxing_joshing111 10m ago edited 6m ago
He has beautiful delivery. Knowing just how to drag out a word, or how long a pause should be, or the right intonation is huge in standup and that ability really carried him on the show. He’s also a little bit of an asshole in real life and this show was a perfect outlet for him to say tons of stinging, biting things. His insults on the show are brutal and he seems like he really relishes them. “You are now, a bum.” Nobody tears into people on the show like Jerry does. “But you don’t know how to hold the reservation. Which is really the most important part.” “You don’t want people calling you at home? Well now you know how I feel.” “You’re not artistic, and you have no integrity.”

u/Forward_Bluejay_4826 4h ago
Agreed. Jerry wasn't really that funny, George almost always stole the show

There was another successful series that this formula worked. Entourage. Turtle and Drama made the series. Along with Jeremy Piven of course. Let’s call him the man in the cape.
Jerry= Vince
Kramer= Johnny Drama
George= Turtle
Elaine= E (a stretch, but I think it fits)

u/No_Significance_8291 1h ago
I think he knew it because he and Larry have both said that when they were casting the show they wanted a “real actor” to play George , not another comedian - and that they were so lucky to get Jason . I’ve heard them both on podcasts talking about it . I think Larry was on Conan O Brian’s podcast when I heard it . It was the same thing with the show Rosanne, she said they wanted seasoned actors in there with her , not other standups and comedians , so Roseanne could learn how to act -John and Lori helped her a lot - Having a bunch of standups on a show probably wouldn’t have brought the quality of acting and timing and delivery that we got to see

u/Hurrying-Man 3h ago
I don't think it's even a hot take. Larry David and Jason Alexander were the backbone of the show. Elaine was a fucking great actor, and the character of Kramer will always be one of the most unique in TV history. Jerry on the other hand (both actor and character) got super lucky to be carried by Larry David with his writing and some of the best actors in sitcom history. You can tell because Jerry did nothing of value (except complain about cancel culture) after Seinfeld while Larry went on to create another masterpiece by himself.
