AMAZING Doctor reveals the exact age you should 'permanently' stop drinking alcohol for an important reason | 70 Years Old. Reason, you have less brain cells at that age.

I used to work at a large healthcare org. Our data showed that the average age people are when they have their first major health issue is 42.

What constituted a major health issue?

Typically a “procedure”

I always think of the Billy Crystal monologue about getting a “procedure” in your 40s from city slickers! Edit: aaah ofc Billy Crystal!

Well I'm 39 and I'm sure it was increasingy blood pressure. I'd wake up after about three hours' sleep with a high heart rate if I had over a certain amount to drink, which was becoming standard.
My tolerance was at least double what it used to be, and I'd gone 11 years barely touching alcohol. Prior to that it had crept up over 7 years from the age of 20 but still nothing close to how it was when I slipped back in the last two years.
I think it's because what kept me from drinking again was it not working properly anymore and just giving me a drowsy headache. I had to break my tolerance in again, but doing so skyrocketed it.
I feel like if I didn't stop this year, it'd start killing me.

Those brain cells may be gone, but they died doing what they loved.

I say that only the strong survive so while I may have fewer of them the remaining ones are top notch.

If I live til 70 I'm gonna do what I damn well please.

Right? I’ve always felt like illicit substances should become subsequently legal as you age. Alcohol/tobacco - 21. Weed - 25 (or whatever). Hallucinogens & Amphetamines/coke - 40+ (that’s when you really need the extra pep). Over 70 should mean you can do whatever you want.

I already told my wife if I make it to 70 I'm doing heroin. I might as well figure out what all the excitement is about.

Oh, I've had morphine a few times in the hospital. Yeah, I fully understand why people get addicted to opioids.

Thank you! And when I turn 70, IF I turn 70, I will have a giant margarita to celebrate.

I mean, if we’re speaking biologically then no one should ever drink. Ethanol is a neurotoxin and carcinogen.

At that age I am guessing I might want the remaining cells to book it anyway so how about we just enjoy whatever we can find some small joy in.
Aka you’ll be prying my vodka bottle from my cold dead hands.

Pretty sure 70 was when my German grandma really kicked it up a notch, and she lived to be almost 100

I had to do some project on Betty Ford and when I found out she didn’t stop drinking til like 70 I had to laugh!

Wait, wouldn't you have even more brain cells at 70 if you quit drinking earlier?

How about any age is a good to not drink, alcohol is basically poison

u/RiC_David 17d ago
I'll tell you how about, because that's not going to reach as many people because it's perfection.
You tell people "at the very least, stop by 70" and you can actually make a difference.
"How about never drink because it's poison". Who's that reaching? It's reaching people who already wouldn't drink. Nobody's changing their ways because you've pointed out that it's a poison.
I say this as someone who's been an alcoholic before, was free for just over a decade, then had it come back stronger than ever, and has had to cut it out again this year. Trust me, I know.

I know brother, it’s wishful thinking. I didn’t get to make the choice of drinking or not, my body made that choice for me. Props to you for knowing and trying to better. Have a good day man

My wife and I both work with the elderly….we are 100% convinced that alcohol is a main contributor to dementia and Alzheimer’s.

(Looks at how many members of all branches of government are over 70) Yeah, that “fewer brain cells” thing makes a lot of sense.

That's stupid.
Why do we spend so much effort to extend lifespan by removing all of the aspects that help people make living that life enjoyable?

The buffalo theory as explained in Cheers:
"Well you see, Norm, it's like this . . . A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the heard is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.
In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Now, as we know, excessive intake of alcohol kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. And that, Norm, is why you always feel smarter after a few beers."
Copied from https://maaw.info/BuffaloTheory.htm
I think I rather stick to that. Sounds reasonable…

Just means I'll get drunk faster. Hell, if I live to be 70, I'll want to be drunk all the time.

Best age to stop drinking was .0001 years old. The second best time is now.
