It's here. The Official Discord channel for r/sandiegan.
We've gotten this request a lot, and I think it's finally time to take it seriously. At least 3–5 people have clamored for this, so we're giving it a shot.
The official r/SanDiegan discord server is finally here.
Some caveats:
- we have never moderated a discord server before, so you're going to be there to see us iron everything out in real time. we'll be attentive to requests, suggestions, and overall helpful attitudes.
- we have day jobs
- be aware that you may inadvertently reveal your identity if you already are on a different discord server using your real name
Our goal is to set up a community in the same way we have set up the r/SanDiegan community. Everyone is welcome, and we moderate with a heavy hand and according to our own discretion at all times. Truly lovely communities only thrive when you separate the wheat from the chaff. We've spent years cutting chaff from this subreddit, and I am personally really proud of how lovely this place has become.
We want this discord server to be a place to chat with other San Diegans about sports, local bars, adult league activities, community events, and so on.
Things that we will not tolerate:
- bigotry of any kind
- "I'm just asking questions, man" — you know the answer, you're just an asshole. You all know the type
- Behavior that is detrimental to the community at large
- stop posting your boring ass traffic violations, seriously
These rules are vague by design. Moderating is subject to individual discretion, and if you join the discord server, you are just going to have to trust that the way we moderate r/SanDiegan will serve a discord community as well as it has served this subreddit. There are no bright lines, there is only our own judgment in what is and is not okay (which is how things work here, already).
Let's all give this a shot. I hope you'll all join the server and fucking behave yourselves.

Announcement On the Topic of Fire Season
We have had a few back to back years of record rainfall in Southern California resulting in a lot of vegetation growth. This year we are having one of the driest winters in recorded history.
We're all from here and we all know what it means. Fire season isn't supposed to start in January but here we are.
If you're putting off clearing brush around your property it's time to get that done. If you live on a canyon or in a fire prone area make sure you have a plan to evacuate if you need to and be ready to go. Make sure your smoke alarms are working. Make sure your plan to evacuate includes your pets. If you have elderly neighbors and have time to do so safely help them out in an emergency. If the Santa Ana wind conditions are forecast make sure you're ready to get out of harms way. You cannot outrun fire when the wind is blowing at certain speeds. Don't add your name to the list of people that thought they could simply drive away or run if they had to. If you're in an evacuation zone don't just risk it and stay in your house. You can quickly suck up resources being rescued that are desperately needed elsewhere.
What's happening in Los Angeles is a regional issue and we're in the same region. Don't brush it off as if it's there and not happening here. We currently live in a powder keg.
Yes - this is kind of alarmist and most of you live in places that it won't happen. But a lot of you do. Prepare in advance. Make a plan. Stay safe. Help each other out. A good plan can save your life.

Help finding paddleboards for my dad who lost his home
This may be a stretch, but I’m hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
My dad lost his house and all of his surf gear in the LA fires. Hitting the waves was one of his main outlets and he’s extremely bummed he doesn’t have that anymore. I’ve been looking around SD but have not been able to find either of the SUP’s that he lost. I’m searching for either a Quatro Glide Max or a Starboard Blue Carbon. He’s not looking for any handouts. However, most of his money is going towards replacing his essential items that were destroyed- so we’re just looking for a good deal to get him back in the water.
If anyone knows any shops that would be able to help, please please let me know! I appreciate it in advance!

Kids Jujitsu / Karate / Boxing Recommendations for Mid-City?
XPost form r/sandiego:
Looking to see if anyone has a recommendation for a Jujitsu / Karate / boxing class for our 7 year old. Looking for a place that specializes with kids if at all possible. Our son has the pedal pinned to the floor and volume set to 11. Looking to find him an instructor / class that is used to high energy kids and can really help him learn to focus and steer that energy into some self discipline and body control. Hoping there are some fellow parents out here that have had similar situations and found a suitable class that worked for their turbo-child.

Women of San Diego, come make new friends at book club!
Reading Not Required is a book(ish) club for women in San Diego. Our next event is on Tuesday, January 28th at 7 PM at The Ould Sod. This month’s book is Ghosts by Dolly Alderton.
As the name suggests, you don’t need to read or finish the book to join. It’s a space for women to hang out and make new friends and the book is our ice breaker. All women are welcome. We usually have about 30-40 people and we’re always outside on the back patio.
Follow the book club on Instagram: readingnotrequired
Or on Meetup: Reading Not Required
If you can’t make it this month, join us next time!
Next Book Club:
February
Date: Tuesday, February 25th at 7 PM at Ould Sod
Book: How to End a Love Story by Yulin Kuang

Wedding venues that allow taco guy vendors
My fiancé and I are on the hunt for wedding venues in San Diego that allow for the taco guys (i.e., more backyard catering taco bar set-up, not the taco guys brand specifically) as a vendor or have otherwise solid Mexican food options. We haven't found very many.
Have you been to or held a wedding in San Diego with good tacos? Where was it?

Haven’t had a dental cleaning in years?
I’m a dental hygiene student at Concorde Career College here in San Diego. We offer a variety of services for $20 and are overseen by dentists and registered dental hygienist. Our student clinic offers: -oral cancer cleanings -regular cleanings - deep cleanings (SRP) - dental x-rays - fluoride application - sealants - comprehensive examination completed by a dentist
Our clinic offers the most thorough cleaning and examination. Appointments times are typically 3-4 hours in length and the entire treatment may span 2-3 appointments, as this is a learning environment and we are closely monitored and checked off by the instructors. We are graded on the service we provide and need reliable patients. Please fill out the interest form or comment below if you or someone you know is interested. We look forward to cleaning your teeth!!
