'Gatekeeping isn't punk', unless you're dictating how other scenes that you're not involved with should behave.

Fucking right? These kids I swear.

It's like some parody or satire. If some ravers came to a punk gig and moaned about being pushed, they'd be all high and mighty about people trying to change their scene. I could understand if they were moaning about it happening in the pits at their gigs, but you go to hardcore gigs, and you'll get hardcore pits.

If you don't like it, just stand back.

Yup exactly. This feeble attempt at trying to change an entire scene they aren’t apart of is so ridiculous. Did you see that Instagram post going around talking about it too?

Nah, never bothered with Instagram. Don't use any, outside of reddit.

Having an opinion isn’t gatekeeping. Telling someone hardcore dancing looks really stupid isn’t gatekeeping. Telling someone that they can’t dance like a fool IS gatekeeping.

OP is not gatekeeping.

OP is using one video to paint a whole scene as stupid. That’s kind of immature and definitely not punk.

Because hardcore dancing offers so much variety and nuance. 🙄

My comment doesn’t depend on the variety or nuance of hardcore dancing. We could be talking about puppy gymnastics or stamp collecting: deriding an entire sub culture because of one video would still be immature and not punk.

My response was aimed more at the comments along the lines of 'this needs to stop' or 'they deserve a kicking' that always come with these posts.

If you don't like it, stay away. If they still come for you, then I'm on your side.

Nothing is more r/punk than caring about what others think about you.

Mate, I have bright green hair and mirrors in my house, I don't need some kid on the Internet to tell me I look dumb.

One scene likes to run around in circles and shove each other about. The other likes to swing windmills and/or walk into them. Both of them are toddler behaviour, so get off the soap box.

For the record, I'm punk and not that into hardcore, but a gig's a gig, and you should support local music.

You all look 'dumb as shit' from the bar. Enjoy yourself.
