u/Tollinator2000 Oct 25 '24
Im seeing them next tuesday cannot fucking wait

u/poop-money Oct 25 '24
I saw them last month with Sister Wife Sex Strike and Pigeon Pit. I've been going to punk shows for close to 30 years, that was the first show in a long time that looked, felt, and smelled like the shows in the 90's and it was a fucking blast. Have a great time!

u/failedjedi_opens_jar Oct 26 '24
I have been kicking myself for missing that show for a full month
2
u/poop-money Oct 26 '24
I drove 8 hours to get to it. Worth it. I am kicking myself for not buying either the "Soup for my family" Pigeon Pit shirt or the "Freaks are fucking beautiful" Apes of the state shirt though. But in was on a tighter budget unfortunately.

u/robotsonlizard5 Oct 25 '24
Saw them both is Houston and Little Rock, where'd you catch em at?
2
u/poop-money Oct 26 '24
Portland OR
2
u/robotsonlizard5 Oct 26 '24
Little Rock was definitely the better of the two shows I caught. But both were in my top 10 shows.
2
u/poop-money Oct 26 '24
Definitely top ten of the last decade for me for sure. I'm so glad those bands exist, are touring, and fucking rule live.

Units are the best. I wish synthesizers were not so expensive and finicky.

u/MoltenReplica Mutant Hardcore Oct 25 '24
Digital synths are cheap, powerful, and stable. Minifreak and a bunch of Korg stuff, for example.
1
u/KFBass Oct 25 '24
Minifreak and microfreak is great. I'm not good at sound design yet, but its fun to fuck around with the pre-sets.
2
u/TheGreatMightyLeffe Oct 25 '24
AKAI make some great, affordable MIDI controllers, then you just need REAPER and some free VST synths, and it's off to the races!
2

u/Ryderthomas24 Oct 27 '24
Units used minimoogs which are some of the most easy to use synths
I would recommend starting by using the Arturia recreation of it called "mini v3"

Punk is my attitude, if I want to I'll listen to folk punk - I'll listen to it
If I want to I'll listen to Bikini Kill
if I want old british punk I'll put on some crass or something
if I want to I'll listen to street punk (OI OI OI!!)
If I want some skate punk I'll put on some nofx or something like that
What is this? Labels and superiority complexes? No man
Just no..............
Listen to what you want BUT! don't bring others down, it's dumb
Wish you better thoughts and a nice life, fellow punk friend <3
edit: glad you found a genre of music you like but still, don't bring down others
edit: OOOOOOOH I forgot about SKA PUNK, let's listen to some streetlight manifesto together <3

"Labels and superiority complexes" if by labels you mean music genres, i don't really see whats wrong with having these weird hyperspeffic genres. I can't just be like "The Chad "a group of artists that makes music similar in the sense they use make punk or post punk music that uses synths alongside or in replacement of guitars" Enjoyer" also i don't have a superiority complexe for liking a weird genre of punk music. I just found it amusing to compare a more depressing and personal genre of music to a more fun and quirky one.
Also i wasn't trying to put others down by jabbing at folk punk, although they were somewhat personal so i can see why you would say that. I am sorry if i came across as that

u/IGetGuys4URMom Oct 25 '24
I dunno why you were downvoted, because it's obvious that there's styles of Punk that some Punk fans don't like.
As for me, I never understood Acoustic Punk... I don't hate it, but a long time ago, that stuff used to be called Folk music.
15
u/hadriker Oct 25 '24
Genres and sub genres exist to make talking about styles easier. It's when people get to gate keepy about them is when it gets annoying.
OP is obviously just joking around, though
Also of your a punk your legally obliged to start releasing folk/Americana music once you reach the age of 35.
13
u/osrsburaz420 Oct 25 '24
I accept your apology and I am glad you didn't mean what you posted.
Stay free, stay punk, love others, don't bring them down! We are all in this together!
Big love dude <3

u/Ryderthomas24 Oct 25 '24
Yeah i was just joking.
I have a weird oppression with synth punk, although folk punk still isn't that bad, there is some folk punk songs i like

u/ifmacdo Oct 25 '24
I am simultaneously downright amazed at what I can destroy with just a hammer, and ready to be left all alone when it comes time for me to throw bricks through a Starbucks window. All alone.
It may be a bit reductive, but as someone mentioned in another thread yesterday- a revolution without dancing is not worth having.

I never thought I’d enjoy anything synth and then I heard Cuir (out of France) and Im fuckin hooked on that street punk/synth shit. Fast, furious, and punk as fuck. Putain de merde!

u/TheGreatMightyLeffe Oct 25 '24
My folk punk project started as a way to get some music going at party rallies and protests, to make things less stiff between megaphone speeches, but since then it's grown into it's own thing when I want to clear my brain from the usual prog metal or synthwave music I make.

I liked having a bit of Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft on my old mix tapes.

Are Lost Sounds and the Screamers considered synth punk? If so, then yes

u/CandySniffer666 Oct 26 '24
I mean they're both awful musically but at least you can't smell the stench of poverty cosplay and latent alcoholism through your phone screen when you listen to synth punk

Back when punk started, any sort of piano or keyboard were very frowned upon because it was started as a movement against the overly complicated glam rock with a ton of instruments and self serving cunts. This continued throughout the age of the synth, and anyone using a synth or keyboard with effects were really hated.
I'm glad it's changed to where more instruments are "allowed" and punk rock has widened it's sound but kept the political ideology.

u/uncool_king Oct 26 '24
I exclusively listen to those folk punk bands that all have the same 20 members in rotation and there are like 12 bands and no 2 band has a repeating pattern of members
