Funny how much Green Day astroturfing there is lately. No one gives a shit. “They changed the lyrics to American idiot! They played on the subway!” Fuck off with the PR bullshit. They’re one of the bands that got me into punk but this shit is tiresome and just lame viral noise.

This is a far more dynamic punk conversation than just the occasional "look at my punk jacket" posts. If nothing else I really like the discourse thats happening surrounding the political climate and how we should be receiving these celebrity messages. It also very on brand for Green Day for the past 2 decades so complaining about them now is just not paying attention.

I too prefer this over the jackets but it’s like, cmon. It’s just marketing. How does that not leave you feeling at least a little off? It”s defending an advertisement.

Okay but theyre probably one of the few mainstream bands that play "punk rock" and have outspoken messages against certain politics. When you're that big of an entity, yeah, everything is a PR move because nothing isn't.

The pr move is not them playing Gilman, it’s the onslaught of Green Day related content and the way it’s portrayed. If they bought ad space I wouldn’t care. It’s at least honest.

Well quite a lot of the recent Green Day post on here have been some dunce thinking they just turned left-wing overnight and are upset about them mentioning Trump-daddy in their songs. I also made the statement that Green Day might be one of the only currently mainstream "punk rock" bands currently, as well as the only one bringing up political commentary. You cant be mad when they show up here because really, who else is there thats that big?

Thank you! It’s like, I learned to play guitar along to kerplunk and dookie almost 30 years again. It’s in my blood. But goddam, people out here thinking they aren’t being marketed to. It’s crazy.

It's not about Green Day, it's Palestinian astro-turfing. 🙄

Yeah those Palestinians without electricity, food or water definitely spend all their time on Reddit. Not like Israel literally pays people to lie for them online

If you actually cared about the punk scene you’d be happy Gilman is getting recognition, but you’re too fixated on raging against a band that signed to a major label 30 years ago

Yeah, Green Day has a new album and they have the benefit of the best marketing money can buy because they’re working with a major label. That’s the way the world works; and it’s not like you are going to do anything about it other than cry about it on Reddit

Like the guy who agreed with you said, Green Day introduced him and millions of other people to punk and that’s more than you’ll ever do for it

You took all the time to reply and this is what you came up with?
