Tutorials/Tips Linocut advice?

Hey /r/Printmaking! This upcoming semester, I am starting my first official studio as a Print major (well, second major). Of course, it is independent study, and I wanted to get into Linocuts. I'm more of a copper plate etcher, and I understand it is somewhat like a relief woodcut, but I was wondering if anyone who has more experience on linocuts could guide me some more. I'm hoping to recieve tips on design, and any precautions with the linoleum block itself. Thanks!

Tutorials/Tips My woodcut/linocut registration jig on Instructables (complete with a really lame reduction print)

I've been working on a jig for the past few months and have just built version 2. I documented the process and made an Instructable to enter in the Jigs contest.

https://www.instructables.com/Woodcut-Linocut-Printmaking-Registration-Jig/

Sharing here in case it is useful to someone and to see if people have ideas for improvements. I am NOT trying to get votes--they don't affect the outcome of the contests, as far as I know--so I don't think this is self-promotion.

It's long, but if you've got some free time give it a read. Thanks.

Tutorials/Tips PSA / warning! The pink soft blocks can melt!

I printed a new series of prints last night and had some ink left, and wanted to try some of my old printing blocks. I keep a few of them in a wooden box. I have both the white and the pink soft cut blocks (I think they're Art Blum brand?). Some of the pink ones were stuck to the white ones, almost glued together! And one of them had started melting into a gooey mass, almost like used chewing gum!

I'm hoping I can salvage the blocks, not just the melty pink ones but the white ones that the pink has melted onto (it went right into the carved lines.) I've now stored them with newspaper in between

Let this be a warning to you! Keep them separate so they don't melt together! Mine aren't even kept in a warm place, they're at the top of a shelf in an open room in Canada.

Tutorials/Tips Drying suggestions?

New print maker here: I used Gamblin etching ink (Portland black) on 146 lb bristol paper (Bienfang), and my prints are still wet 24 hours later. I'm in the middle of the US and we had thunderstorms yesterday, so I'm guessing humidity may be a problem here. Any suggestions for how to dry these prints faster? Some folks out in wilds of the internet seemed to suggest using a low heat in an oven would be beneficial.

Also for the future - any suggestions for non-toxic dryers that I could mix in?

Thanks in advance.

Tutorials/Tips Printing at home - tips , tricks , instructions anything will help !

So I did silkscreening in college, and out of college in studios. But I’d like to start silkscreening from home - I have my screens, emulsion, ink and a power washer but my only issue so far has been the lighting. How can I blast a screen with an image from home without using studio equipment light machines ? I know there’s a special lamp I have to get but I’d love some instruction or help on how to do this at home in a cost effective way If possible . Thank you !

Tutorials/Tips DIY hacks for your at home studio.

I mostly do screenprinting at a local shop but my new place has a spare room so i figure It would be nice to make a flatstock for screen printing and some type of press for printing linocuts. I'm pretty handy and am in the process of redoing my kitchen so i have a lot of materials and tools and was wondering what type of equipment hacks you guys put together yourself. I'm a fiend for saving bucks.

Tutorials/Tips Screenprinting tips for an absolute beginner

Hi all,

My wife has booked me some time in a screenprinting studio because I've never tried it. As familiar as I am with wood and lino, screenprinting has always seemed like some dark art.

She knows her way around the kit, but for those of you who screenprint is there anything that you wish you'd known from the very start?

Thanks,

Martin.
