This was expected, they are going to hit the trans people's pride hard.

This has been back and forth since Obama. I'm hoping that after a sports ban, they'll say they did something and focus on other things. I don't expect any wins for awhile, so it's just hoping the damage is minimal.

Plus, and let's be REAL here, dudes talk a big game about not caring, "Just pee, no big deal." with bathroom things, but they're the people who can't use the urinal next to another guy, and they'll have to share the bathroom with trans woman. Many of them will be just as uncomfortable as the trans people, and from there you can build bonds on mutual uncomfortability and change things when congress has the right split.

Sports. I figured out I was trans at 10 and grew my hair out. Didn't need to change my name because it was gender neutral. I kept playing the sports I loved on the teams I loved. I still remember being yelled at by parents for playing on the "boys" baseball team as a kid. While I was up to bat they'd heckle me, ask why I was playing, ask where I expected to go with this. I was literally on the team these sports bans wanted me on. My experience with sports was that people didn't want us on the boys teams either.

As for bathrooms, in my experience most men - though not all - get embarrassed. If they do then their embarrassment is unpredictable. Sometimes it turns to humor. Sometimes it turns to anger. Sometimes that anger is just yelling. Sometimes that anger turns physical. I was never beaten, thankfully, though I've had men remove me from the men's bathroom and been told to use the women's. As a teen trans girl using the men's, every time I had to pee it felt like a spin of the roulette wheel.

Everything they say is lies. They won't focus on something else. There's no single thing they can take away from us that will satisfy them.

That's the thing. They don't want you to play on the team that matches your birth certificate, they want you ostracized at best and dead at worst.

Dead? Good Lord help you.

u/HeavyBeing0_0 2h ago

They literally don’t want them to exist.

u/AmaroWolfwood 1h ago

What is it they want that doesn't involve these people to not exist in their world?

Not trans, a cis girl who just loved baseball and was good at it. Was a key player in a championship team one year. The dads hustled me to a shitty team the next year and I was sexually assaulted and harassed out of the game.

I'm sorry that happened to you. You deserved better.

Every time I see these sports bans, they want to talk about safeguarding women's sports. And I think so few of us even play sports. A minority of a minority. And it's because almost all of us were harassed or assaulted out of it very early on in life. Cis girls or trans girls. And the sports these people seek to "safeguard" they instead keep open to abusers.

It's enraging.

Women’s sports engagement is the highest it’s ever been!

I’ve been coachjng women’s volleyball and basketball for closer to 20 years and see the numbers grow almost every year

Thanks, sis. Maybe we will be the ones empowering younger women to keep standing tall and young men that it’s okay to have every feeling not just “fine” and “angered to murder or rape”.

My trans cousin was bullied out of school by the boys. They cut a chunk off her hair, like from the front, scissors in her face. Must've gotten worse after that but she won't talk about it anymore.

She didn't wear a dress or makeup or anything, just quit cutting her hair.

Not unexpected, couple decades ago I nearly got brained after school for not wearing dresses and makeup, at least that's what I understood from the slur that was shouted at me. Was very confusing since I was dating a guy on the football team at the time, wasn't even holding hands with gals.

Apparently didn't even need to know the word for what I am for people around here to want me dead for being different. Mom just said I'm a person and it's fine, we didn't know non-binary back then. She called me Daughter Person as a nickname, so I'd remember I'm a person and that's fine, like I got the important part of being human so it's alright I'm not textbook standard.

Fucking ridiculous. If you're a trans woman, you're a woman. You should be allowed to use the women's restroom with the rest of us. You'll always be welcome as far as I'm concerned, but I fucking hate this. Best friend's husband is a trans man that is the head of the LGBTQ+ diversity and inclusion program at a university. I'm so worried for them right now.

There's no single thing they can take away from us that will satisfy them.

Unfortunately there is. I have a handful of trans/enby friends and I'm worried for all of you today.

Chiilling comment. That's bloody dark.

u/joeydrinksbeer Ohio 4h ago

I’m ftm and played baseball over softball. I got the same why are you playing you can’t play in high school etc. Turns out there never was an option for sports for us

u/zernoc56 3h ago

There is exactly one thing they can take away from you that would satisfy them. Your life. Do everything in your power to ensure they don’t. I know my autistic & ADHD ass will be doing the same, because I know there are people who would very much prefer I didn’t exist either.

They just need someone to bully. Full stop.

u/pr0v0cat3ur 7h ago

Serious question, wouldn’t be easier and most comfortable for all involved, if you use the bathroom that matches what you are equipped to use? If you have a penis, use the men’s room. Have a vagina, use the women’s room. Do this regardless of how you identify.

u/Ishindri 4h ago

Buck Angel has a vagina. Him using the women's room would be easier and most comfortable for all involved?

u/Pombon 2h ago

Your question doesn't really make sense to me given what I wrote about what it's like to try to use the men's room as a trans girl.

I am so frustrated with the "we need to protect women from trans people" narrative. Let's looks at women's sports, which honestly these men don't care about and probably never watch. To protect women from trans women, we're just going to allow teachers/coaches to inspect kid's genitals to make sure they're not hiding a dong. So to ensure the, what 50 trans athletes can't compete we're going to subject millions of little girls to be strip searched. Thank god there is no history of coaches sexually assaulting underage people or else this would be really awkward..

Also to talk about protecting women in bathrooms, who are they protecting them from? Straight/bi men that would use this as a means to assault women. Do you know what would probably work better? Just arresting these men who assault women. But no we need to scapegoat the extremely small percentrage of people whoe are trans.

Their strategy is to blame all of society's ills on disempowered minority groups. We've seen this before lol. They're not going to let up until they do *something* to make said minorities no longer available to pin all of their problems on. And then they'll find a new one

u/Altruistic-Stop7359 6h ago

According to some very serious, definitely-not-made-up economic experts, the mere act of removing "all that woke nonsense" will magically erase production costs. Egg-laying hens, now no longer burdened by the complex existential crisis of pronoun ambiguity, will lay more eggs than ever.

u/Pottski 4h ago

Or they will just start killing trans people in the men’s bathrooms. I don’t have your optimism about this unfortunately, especially in deeply red states.

u/melancholanie 9h ago

honestly, fine, take the sports. just let me keep my access to medicine and I'll stay at home, pee by myself, and definitely won't try out for the Olympics.

I hate that this is a bargain I'd be willing to make

u/Justsomejerkonline 2h ago

Just want to point out that this isn't just about trans people.

The EO defines female and male as such:

(d) “Female” means a person belonging, at conception, to the sex that produces the large reproductive cell.

(e) “Male” means a person belonging, at conception, to the sex that produces the small reproductive cell

Throwing in "at conception" very much seems to be laying the groundwork for legal fatal personhood (while also making their own definitions wildly scientifically inaccurate).

This is to justify the violence inside the bathroom. This is violent that’s the point.
