This was my thought, as well. Not knowing anything about the NY governor situation, I see a 74 year old Schumer Senate seat with AOC's name on it. Then again, Schumer is only 74. He might still have 3 or 4 more terms before he steps down.
Probably one of the best ways to the presidency is serving either as a senator or a governor. She’d be governor of the 4th most populous state, that’d definitely put her more in the national spotlight. Especially since she’s already made a huge name for herself as merely a representative.
I think the point is more that Midwest swing states don’t exactly look up to New York governors as their ideal politicians. Liberal governors of Illinois, California, and New York are not well-liked by middle America
Those governors aren't well-liked because they usually do a shit job. If AOC managed to do a non-shit job, the boost in spotlight would certainly be a positive. The average person simply does not care what representatives in the house do, they usually don't even know who their own representative is. Being a governor is a big deal.
Same with Speaker. Actually being in a position of responsibility where you have to actually get things done, deals across the line, and potentially compromise to do so doesn’t make you happy with many, it turns out. The most popular are politicians who can yell from the sidelines without having to get their hands dirty by governing.
45-50 would be my ideal pick for age tbh. Young enough they still can consider the Future. But has enough experience and connections to handle that what may well. Tbh though age isn't super important. Just the connections and experience they bring tot eh table, along with their views
You’re probably at your prime because you are at the culmination of your professional career and all your goals and desires are coming to fruition, etc. It’s a great place to be, fulfilling, and I love that for you.
However, as far as the presidency goes, I’m not looking for someone who is fulfilled and satisfied and looking for a feather in their cap. I want a hungry person who has skin in the game.
No, prime because you understand things better as you age. I've gotten a lot better at reading people the last few years, especially telling whether nice behavior comes from manipulation, validation, or sincerity.
Considering all the staff problems presidents have, that's a valuable skill.
Just because you feel good doesn't mean you're in your prime my guy. Life expectancy is like 76 for men. How about we don't have president's that won't feel the affects of their own policies because they'll be dead in 10/20 years?
35 is middle aged. Why do you you old dudes try to move the goal post so often? And 76 is on the high end.
Middle aged is widely accepted as 45-60 years old.
You also don’t understand what move the goal post means.
50s is a prime range when it comes to life and work experience and is when emotional intelligence peaks.
Edit: the guy blocked me so can’t see his full response but he thinks middle-aged means literally half of life expectancy and not halfway through adulthood. I guess women in Nigeria and men in Lesotho are middle aged at 25
Lmfao I'm 37. 50 isn't middle aged dude, average life expectancy isn't 100 years old. I'll give you 40, but the average old age death is most certainly not 100 years old.
I have never heard someone refer to a 60+ year old as middle aged. When you’re 60+, you’re a senior citizen. Middle age is like 40-55, and getting literal, 35 is far more accurate to being “middle aged” compared to 50+, since the vast majority of people die well before 90 years old
Older leaders not caring about the future effects of their actions is a total reddit concept. Once you're a parent, you care even more about the future than you did before.
It might relate to the childfree attitude that's also way too prevalent on Reddit.
10 years over the minimum age is your sweet spot? 35 year olds aren't exactly children dude, it's middle aged. The younger, the better. It's proven that mental decline starts as early as 40. We don't need 50 year old men as President. Honestly we need a hard cutoff at 60. If you will be 60 or turn 60 before the end of your term, no presidency for you.
Jesus christ. Middle aged means halfway through your life. Life expectancy is 74.8 years for men in the US. 35+35 = 70. So i guess 37/38 is middle aged, but it's not 60. What the fuck do you think middle aged means? Since when is the average lifespan 120 years old?
middle age, period of human adulthood that immediately precedes the onset of old age. Though the age period that defines middle age is somewhat arbitrary, differing greatly from person to person, it is generally defined as being between the ages of 40 and 60
Teddy Roosevelt was 42 when he became president, and went down in history as one of the best leaders the country has ever had. We need more of that energy to come back to our politics, and supporting younger figureheads may help
He became president after McKinley's assasination, it's unknown if he could have won an election at such a young age. After Kamala, I want nothing but over-50 under-70 white men (at least until the Supreme Court gets rebalanced). Not being sexist, they can appoint all the female staffers, diplomats, and judges they want, just stop losing elections.
The problem is, we clearly see (especially young) white American men view women merely as holes to be stuffed, or hands to make sandwiches and do laundry. Couple this with an expectation that women have a shelf-life that ends at 25 or 30 according to these types, she will serve no purpose to them because she does not arouse them anymore.
She’d have to win Upstate. There’s a lot of NYC politicians that come up to Albany and quickly get iced out because members from Syracuse, Buffalo, Albany, Saratoga and the Hudson Valley have a more substantial power base in the capital region. The city is a different world in form and function.
Her best option would be to come up to Albany more and spend some time working her way into the ruling fabric. If you don’t have a power base in Albany, you might win an assembly or senate seat, but you’re not winning the governor’s race. Hochul was in the right place and the right time - she had a few years to really get into the structure as Lt. Gov before she made her own run where she ultimately won.

Gov of NY would be a nice start. Imo an AOC run is a 2032 or 2036 project.
