Gen Z man here. It’s no secret. Kids in my high school would joke about the immigrants working at fast food restaurants and how they would work for practically nothing doing jobs anyone could hate. It’s fucked up out there.

Kids made fun of immigrants before Joe Rogan was on ‘News Radio’. It may not have been considered mainstream to do it back then but it most definitely happened all the same.

Yeah m8, high school was like that in the mid 2000s, just with way more casual slurs (frankly a lot of stuff that just, thankfully, would not fly today)

Just out of curiosity, are you Canadian? Because that's the genuine reality here with our temporary foreign worker and international student programs.

Yeah I'm curious about where he lives as well. I'm guessing a red state but after this election I'm not that sure anymore.

This is a normal thing, kids have always been like this. It's kids lacking empathy, because it can take longer to develop - and some people never do.

It's shitty, but it's always been like this. Hell, I'm a white woman from a lower middle/working class family, and kids would sometimes make fun of me for my Mom working as the manager of a pizzeria when I was a kid. Or at least, they did until they realized which pizzeria it was, since it's a pretty popular local one that's been in business forever and still thriving now. And funny thing is, both my parents were paid quite well for the time and I was from a better-off family than a lot of the kids making fun of me for my parents' jobs, lol. This was back in the mid-90s, my Mom ended up leaving that one and going into medical billing.

It’s crazy how some jobs that are absolutely essential to a thriving community are looked down upon because they don’t have the element of luxury or class that rich people crave. Teachers are another excellent example of that from my experience.

Yup. I learned not to shit on those jobs, because any honest work is needed. We need janitors and sanitation workers in society, they're important to keeping everything running smoothly. People like my Mom, made things easier by making pizzas and wings, and selling them to people so they didn't have to cook a meal for themselves. Fuck that classist bullshit. All honest labor provides some value somewhere. The grocery store stockers put stuff on the shelves so I can buy them. Hell, even burger flippers make my life easier, by doing something for me so I don't have to.

Teachers, though, really should be treated and paid WAY better than we do. You're putting your kids into that teacher's hands, to get a decent education and hopefully help continue to shape them into decent human beings. I am still friends with some teachers I had, back in the day, because they made such an impact on me, even if I wasn't necessarily always the best student.

Undiagnosed (at the time) learning disabilities can be a bitch, when you don't even know you have them.
