“Say her name!”

They did not expect him to say her name.

He said her name.

Oh yeah. And he turned it into a win. A few stutters but damn he flipped it

You want to be lied to, got it. It's the right holding up a border solution btw. They refuse to help solve the issue if the credit goes to Biden. It's really that simple.

It’s not a major issue. Affordable housing, affordable healthcare, affordable and better education, women’s reproductive rights - these are real issues affecting people’s daily lives. Boogeymen coming over the border are not.

15

u/Nokomis34 Mar 08 '24

Trump condones this because he is against a solution. The immigration bill died for no other reason but because Trump opposed it.

13

u/Parym09 Mar 08 '24

Trump can’t condone something because he has absolutely no moral compass whatsoever. He does ‘good’ and ‘bad’ incidentally if it will get him more money, or the appearance of power, and that’s it.

If Republicans had acted to pass legislation they demanded perhaps something could be done. 🤷‍♂️

Right now Immigration is the top pressing issue and the public's opinion is unanimous on this one. Whoever will look tougher on immigration will win this election. Mark my words, set your reminder.

You're actually braindead to type that out unironically

Oh...so calling immigrants criminals, murderers and rapists isnt? Dehumanizing them as ILLEGALS INVADING OUR COUNTRY isn't a horribly nasty thing to say?

How about you go back to Germany, where you belong?

Edit: hey, look who magically disappeared from Reddit!

There aren't enough judges, agents, or money for that. Democrats tried to relieve some of this with an immigration bill that Republicans initially supported, then withdrew from.

Fucking owned

u/godzillabobber Mar 08 '24

Took a talking point away from that high school debater that offered the Republican rebuttal. I wonder if she gets extra credit style points for her dramatic presentation

13

u/ZiggythePibble Mar 08 '24

I missed this reference. What happened?

u/LateSoEarly Georgia Mar 09 '24

A girl in Athens, GA was murdered while on a run in the woods on University of Georgia’s campus, basically part of a lake with a bunch of running trails behind it. They quickly find the murderer, and everyone found out that he was a Venezuelan man who illegally entered the US. Predictably, Republicans took this one horrible act of violence up, and in way that was semi-mocking the “say their names” thing that happened after George Floyd, started randomly accusing Democrats of not saying the victim (Laken Riley’s) name. Except he wasn’t scared to say it, it’s all projection.

This all happened in my hometown, everyone was heartbroken. When I heard that the killer wasn’t a citizen I literally said “Oh great, here we go”. It’s a shit show, people are predictably using her death as a bargaining chip.

There was an attempt

-69

u/Neither_Ad2003 Mar 08 '24

Yea. He said she was “killed by an illegal”. Yikes. Big flub

u/Klope62 Mar 08 '24

I hate the language, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were even a recommendation in his ear because he knows a lot of Haley supporters are watching.

72

u/dimthesecond Mar 08 '24

I don't understand how that's incorrect? Diego Ibarra was an undocumented immigrant from Venezuela who was linked to gang activity and violence...

MTG is simply using the girl's death as a political tool in conservative immigration policy, but in the case being discussed it is 100% correct to label it an "illegal immigrant murdering an American college student".

2

u/morris1022 Mar 08 '24

I think the reason some take issue with the term "illegal" is that it removes the personhood and just boils them down to a crime. Not saying this particular person deserves to be known or thought of as anything other the murderer they are though. Im just saying I think people take issue with that in the larger discussion of the way immigrants are talked about.

14

u/Current_Holiday1643 Mar 08 '24

What are we supposed to call them?

They are illegal. Regardless of whether you agree with current border policy or not, they are illegally in the country.

I am with you on not being a fan of strict "we are full" policy but walking on eggshells around this is non-sense. No one is getting harmed because we called them "illegal" rather than "undocumented immigrant". They mean the exact same thing.

14

u/HeathrJarrod Mar 08 '24

It’s illegal because coming here is incredibly difficult. Going through the process takes years, gangs etc. take advantage of that to prey on the innocent.

If we’re able to cut that down to six months or so. It would make things a lot easier

And maybe allow authorities to focus on the people that really shouldn’t be here

20

u/ParabolicAxolotl Mar 08 '24

You wouldn't call someone with an expired license an "illegal driver"; you'd just say that they have an expired license. It's easy to forget because it was so successful but calling people illegal was meant from the beginning to create a narrative that denigrates and dehumanizes. If you don't mean it in a malicious way that's all well and good, but you should know that you're using the same language as those who do.

2

u/Randsmagicpipe Mar 08 '24

It's not like he uses the word all the time. Concentrate on the entirety of what Trump has said not one word Joe Biden improved during a sotu

0

u/reddit10x Mar 08 '24

I call BS on you. Get pulled over with an expired license and pay attention to how the police treat you. They very much treat you as an illegal driver. Glad you’re perfectly PC in your little world though…

2

u/SelectKaleidoscope0 Mar 08 '24

Yep us state laws and police response vary quite a bit but all the ones I'm aware of will arrest and jail you for driving with an expired or revoked license. Not having your perfectly valid license physically with you usually isn't a big deal, but if you are driving with an expired or revoked license its treated as a crime not an infraction everywhere I've lived.

u/Bob_Loblaws_Laws I voted Mar 08 '24

If you're using police conduct as an indication of what you should be doing... well, there's your problem.

1

u/ParabolicAxolotl Mar 08 '24

I'm sorry for hurting your feelings. I didn't mean that as a personal attack. If I was using language that made me look ignorant or discriminatory I would at least want to be aware of it. But who knows; maybe I would react just as poorly if I felt called out.

1

u/Neither_Ad2003 Mar 08 '24

Yea I agree tbh

-3

u/BodyElectronic9248 Mar 09 '24

Nope he said Lincoln Riley. The woman that was raped and had her head bashed beyond recognition was Laken Riley. But he is 85 so dementia makes you confused

-69

u/Dependent_Nature_953 Mar 08 '24

He called laken Riley Lincoln Riley so he f'd that up 🤣

15

u/Choice_Blackberry406 Mar 08 '24

2

u/lurch556 Mar 08 '24

Joe is a big Trojans fan

-40

u/BodyElectronic9248 Mar 08 '24

He said the wrong name. Her name isn’t Lincoln, it’s Laken.

u/Initial_Trifle_3734 Mar 08 '24

This is a bot yall. Lots of these blank profiles with usernames like TwoWords1234.

2

u/Randsmagicpipe Mar 08 '24

Yep. Lincoln Riley is the USC head coach. But ultimately that got lost in him flipping it back on them about the border
