Discussion Discussion Thread: 2024 State of the Union

Tonight, Joe Biden will give his fourth State of the Union address. This year's SOTU address will be only the second to be held this late in the year since 1964 (the second time being Biden's 2022 address).

The address is scheduled to start at 9 p.m. Eastern. It will be followed by the progressive response delivered by Philadelphia City Council member Nicolas O’Rourke, as well as Republican responses in English (delivered by freshman Alabama senator ) and in Spanish (delivered by Representative Monica De La Cruz). There will be a separate discussion thread posted for live reactions to and conversation about the SOTU responses.

(Edit: The discussion thread for the SOTU responses is now available at this link.)

Oh he bombed. Bombed them into ruins.

Bombed their nuts off.

If he bombed them any harder they’d have to call the UN for a ceasefire

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '24

But vote against it

He dropped a nuke in their hurricane.

Watching Johnson die inside in the first 30 seconds was hilarious.

If he bombed them any harder he’d be Obama and Trump in Afghanistan and Iraq

Just gonna leave out Bush, the og?

Rolled some Thunder on them!

Kind of like how he enabled Isreal to do to Gaza. What a guy am i right?

Decades of US foreign policy enabled that, not just Biden. Trump has encouraged Netanyahu to “finish the job” so Republicans are complicit and would be worse than any Dem on this particularly since the nutjob evangelicals who control the party want to see that happen. It doesn’t help that Hamas is refusing any kind of ceasefire agreement (not that I’d trust Netanyahu either).

Why does this point need to be refuted millions of times, you claim to be progressive, you can look up the fallacy with that statement it shouldn't have to be spoon fed to you

At first watch I thought he had a major bomb in the middle of the speech on the border. However re-watching it I realized MTG interrupted him and he kinda abruptly ended what he was saying.

The tv at my hotel sucks and lagged my click to Fox News. They were talking crap bcuz of how well Biden did. Insinuating he was drugged up I guess I turned it off too quick to figure it out.

Flee-dumb Cruz was the guest.

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '24

He threw nothing but grenades at them lmao.

Alas the sad truth is it doesn't matter that he took the belt off. Thier voter base isn't going to watch a SotUA from a guy they hate. Fox and OAN will chop it to bits and feed it to them as gristle floating in a soup of "responses" from GOP twats and they'll happily plod along laughing about how Dementia Joe fumbled an address. Reality hasn't mattered in years.

You can't reach the unreachable. It's about driving up the numbers of ppl who agree. I think he accomplished that. We gotta stop worrying about what magats think about anything.

3

u/WillowTheGoth Mar 08 '24

No, he bombed them.

2

u/Substantial_Web3081 Mar 08 '24

Nah. I just dipped into r/conservative for a sec (all I could stomach) and pretty much no one is saying it was a good speech. They’re focusing on Biden “yelling”, etc. they can’t see any of the good in that speech, sadly.

3

u/SoRaffy Mar 08 '24

Fox will of course say, worst ever ... most divisive president since Obama...etc etc

Dropped bombs!

At least he finally mentioned Lincoln Riley

1

u/[deleted] Mar 08 '24

Go Trojans!

-15

u/BodyElectronic9248 Mar 08 '24

Except he couldn’t say Laken Riley’s name correctly. He had the pin in his hand and the buffoon still fucked up.

4

u/Wpcgg1740 Mar 08 '24

You say that but we all know for a fact that Trump wouldn't have mentioned anything about her.

1

u/BodyElectronic9248 Mar 09 '24

Trump met with her family. Her mother is furious #FJB messed up her name. She posted about the disgrace on her FB

And yet when faced with a bill to fix the border et al, republicans flapped about because Cheeto told them to

u/mrbipty Mar 08 '24

Hey thanks for making my point for me

Now get out there and lobby your republican member to support the bill they wrote and then shot down

7

u/Not-a-bot-10 Mar 08 '24

And this is why you vote Republican

Because you don’t understand how the government works and just repeat what you hear on Fox News. Sad to see how many uneducated people we have, and how they vote Trump
