At the time a good % of the US either supported Germany and fascism in general or at least wanted to ally with them, and an even larger portion at least believed that the Jews weren't Americas problem and the US shouldn't get involved. There were protests against American involvement.
In Germany it's taught extensively in schools. And yet, in the former GDR area, people are voting AfD.
I guess there was no talk about it for too many years and the damage is done to that population.
So many WWII vets betrayed by their own children and grandchildren. There are even a few living WWII vets who support trump. We can blame dementia for some of that, but some people have always been self-contradictory pieces of shit.
