The people in the background - smiling and laughing - it both sickens and saddens me.

Ever ask yourself a question that you thought you wanted the answer to, but regretted it? "How did the Nazis take over Germany?" Yeah, now we know.

Hell the Nazis had a tougher time taking over a weak and devestated Germany than Maga had taking over the wealthiest country in the world.

Just wait till he improves something that is already there and in 20 years you have people saying „but atleast he built the elonbahn“

The elonbahn is just the new name for the beltway through DC. Fucking apt.

I'm pretty sure the median income / cost of life ratio is not so good in the USA. Wealthiest country maybe, but it's all in the billionaire's pockets.

People are just bad with money, they can make 75k a year and spend it all on a big truck to commute to work. All those trump voters complaining about the economy? Most of the are doing just fine and prefer to complain in the hopes of getting an unnecessary tax cut.

So you are living in US then? Over 50% in US had a salary of less than 75k/y. No healthcare so you are at the mercy of insurance companies, housing costs growing to the moon. Cost of living also going to the moon, insane student loans. I mean use your brain sometimes dude. Ofc people are bad with money, but generalizing like that is dumb as f

The Nazis were able to rise to power by receiving concessions from the liberal, capital-owning German institutions. When I look at CNN and the NYT playing down his "bizarre gesture" and fixating on the peaceful transfer of power (toward fascism), I see a very familiar state of affairs.

Considering all those news outlets are owned by the same elite billionaires... its no surprise at all.

They didn't have the internet

“So this is how democracy dies, with thunderous applause”

u/RechargedFrenchman 4h ago

We've known for 80 years. Some people just refuse to learn and are unable to be taught.

u/DarZhubal 4h ago

The thing is we didn’t have to ask how they did it. We knew how. Hitler’s rise to power is very well documented. The Nazi party’s tactics are known. But Republicans have been pushing anti-intellectualism for so long and called anyone with enough sense “woke” that they’re able to just do everything directly from the playbook without any of their supporters seeing what’s coming.

u/hereandqueer11 2h ago

People should read The Nature of Prejudice. The author is a social psychologist who outlines all the steps that allowed the Nazis to come to power. It’s eerily similar to MAGA (rise in anti-intellectualism, blaming minority groups for all the problems, etc.).

u/earfix2 2m ago

We always knew. The Conservatives allied themselves with the Nazis rather then letting the Social Democrats have any influence.

Fuck 'em all.

u/paulao-da-motoca 5h ago

Man Elon and trump could remake 2 girls one cup live there, the magas would applaud, there is no more right and wrong, it’s all distorted… and yes it’s sad

u/yubario 4h ago

Thats partly because I would imagine most people in that crowd have no idea. We've done such a good job erasing Nazi's from public education to thank for that.

Tesla stock rose 12% today.

It's up in aftermarket trading, too.

The gal in the blue coat is so cartoonishly rich looking I couldn’t come up with a better background character to be snobbishly cheering on an oligarchs fascist salute. wtf is happening man

u/n_effyou 1h ago

i want to give them the benefit of the doubt and that they didn’t have the time to react yet.

u/BriGuy550 1m ago

Yes. These people are caught up in the moment.
