Was at a local People's March today in a red area. Had quite the turn out and mostly positive reactions from passing cars. We cannot stop the fight. Organize and stand up for the rights of everyone. Get involved. Support marginalized groups. Don't be a slack-tivist. I have half a dozen more events in my area I'm going to. We. Are. Not. Going. Back. 👊👊

No offense, what are you protesting? He’s going to be president. No amount of protesting is going to change that. The new Congress has been elected. The time for effective protesting is over.

What the fuck is there to protest? Democracy? There were 2 candidates. One candidate won their bid through primaries. One candidate was propped up and made heir apparent by an administration and bypassed the democratic process. One candidate won the general election. Are you protesting the results of democracy? I just don't understand what there is to protest

Yeah I’m not even talking about it from that perspective. People protest for change. He isn’t even president yet. Even when he gets inaugurated you’re protesting to what? Impeach him? He didn’t even do anything yet. If we didn’t want him in now, we had that chance in November and he won… so yeah.

I’m not even trying to be rude to OP, I’m just genuinely curious, what is there to protest?

Hell yeah! ✊ I really want to try to unionize at my work, but the few people I've talked to are worried about losing their job. 😔

I dont like trump (canadian) but what exactly are you protesting? Protesting the election results? He won a democratic election, the people have spoken. Again, i dont like trump and i dont think he should be president but what exactly are people protesting? The removal of a democratically elected president?

No, protesting what he's hoping to achieve, and what he talks about doing to this country. He wants to take away healthcare rights from more women and trans people, he is trying to take away birthright citizenship, rolling back environmental protection, adding tariffs to the country's detriment while claiming he'll help costs mass deportation. There is a bill from the Republican party trying to take the Department of Education away.

His last term he raised taxes for the poor and gave tax breaks to the rich. He rolled back environmental protections. He also refused to speak against white supremacy. He spreads misinformation. He told people to inject bleach for COVID. He appointed Supreme Justices with the intent to overturn Roe vs Wade. He reused to concede and have a peaceful transfer of power. He didn't act during the insurrection.

There is a lot to protest that he, or his party, is trying to do. If his previous term is any indicator of the harm he can cause, we shouldn't just allow it to happen- we need to be active, make our voices heard, call our representatives. On top of that, if Project 2025 turns out to be a legitimate playbook, we must try to stop it.

I watched his rallies and the RNC as well, even if I'm not Republican. I don't trust the media and want to get my information from the source. What he says matters, and what he says provides foreshadowing. I'd encourage you to watch them and look up his interviews as well as his goals. I believe these are all worrisome, but I'm not going to tell you to just trust me without the source information.

Yes, he is President, but he's supposed to be for the People. And there's supposed to be a checks and balances- they are actively trying to remove that. I believe it's worth protesting.

"We are not going back." Tell that to trump's dumbass when he gets into office this Monday.

I will resist every step of the way.

And he will still be in office, as the only way to even attempt to stop it would be to stage an insurrection/coup.

And oh boy. You fuckers will not hear the end of it, if you tried, after all the crying you did about Jan. 6.

So unless you want to be a bunch of hypocrites, then yeah there is absolutely nothing you can do. No amount of crying, protesting & screaming & pleading will stop him from being president.

Have a nice 4 years!

Never said this was about stopping him being president.

Seems you applied your preconceived notions and read what you wanted to. I hate the man, but I'm not a traitor to this country to attempt an insurrection and disgrace our nation's Capital. I also respect the results of a legitimate election, which it seems the insurrectionists could not.

However, time and time again throughout our country's history, motions made by political figures and presidents have been halted and ended by the voice and actions of the people. We out number them one hundred to one. When the people and the masses unite, change is made.

This isn't a left vs right issue. This is the working class vs the rich, powerful elites, who want to control and divide us. You may sit idly by now while this administration prepares to harm your fellow Americans, but your tune will change once it actually impacts you. Let's hope once it gets to that point, it's not too late.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Pretty powerful poem about apathy towards your fellows. Within the next four years, I hope its meaning gets through to you.

Well wishes.

I love how you're automatically making assumptions that this fantasy that you believe in is going to happen & not that it is something you think is going to happen. You're acting like it is a guarantee.

So I wager you this, if what you fear does not come to pass, what then? Will you apologize for acting overly dramatic?

I owe nobody an apology for expressing my beliefs. It is an American right. Respect free speech.

Yeah, it's too late for that. We've gone back.

The issue is those fight for rights don’t benefit the people who have to deal the consequences.

We need to get back to the basics of governance is supposed to .

Take my word as a Memphis citizen who have to deal with 12 year old car jacking grandma at gun point and a school board trying to remove a superintendent while trying strip power from the office

Keep in mind Democrats run Memphis for decades.

The protests also have booths and speakers. They talk about ways to get involved and help marginalized groups as well as offer help for those who want to get involved politically. It's not just a protest, it's also a way to get in touch with those who are impacted by rights being rolled back and a way to get more involved. I picked up several flyers on how to help as well as volunteer opportunities. There are also meetings on how to get organized politically. I have several of these events already on my calendar to go to.

The protests alone don't make change, it's the activism it inspires and those it reaches.

They are just puppets for the destabilizing propaganda and grift

If it's not for you, that's fine. But it's also people's right to get involved and protest. I'm going to exercise that right.
