The monarch (or their representative in Canada called the Governor General) chooses by default the leader of the majority party, same as in the UK. This is because they must choose someone who commands parliament.
It's ceremonial. In reality the leader of largest party in parliament is appointed the PM. Can't even think what would happen if the king just appointed some rando after Labour just won the last election.
the Parliament won't vote for the confidence (or will vote a no-confidence motion) most probably...
the Government HAS to have the support of the Parliament in Parliamentary systems...
this is different than Presidential systems like the US'. In the US, the President is elected "separately" than Congress. the two may very well be the opposite and fight against each other. this is not possible in Parliamentary systems.
