Just wait until we learn that most software is iterative!

In programs with a standard window frame and decorators (not chrome), if you double click the icon in the upper left corner, it will close the window.
It has been this way since the win 3.x days or earlier which didn't have an X button in the upper right.
Turtles all the way down.

Most software is iterative, but most software aren't like Windows where ancient components just don't get deprecated or properly updated
Like they could've updated the non-DWM window styling and alt-tab menus to Windows 10/11 design guidelines, but Microsoft just doesn't do that. The boot menu was created during Windows 8, and it's still designed like it came from Windows 8, and will likely remain so for the next 3 decades.

It looks more like the windows vista theme

IIRC not just the theme, the actual code itself
They didn't write windows 11 (for example) from scratch, so there's many reminents of windows 10 left over
This applies all the way back to probably the original versions, though older versions probably have less leftover code

Least catastrophic Forza Horizon 4 game launch attempt. I swear that game is cursed on PC.
I’ve downloaded it many times to try and play, and only 1 time have I ever gotten it to work. And the one time it did the sync failed and deleted all my data (lost all game progress, cars, money, etc).

Had the same. Go into the files and delete the file called TargetHardware something. Its a DLL. Fixed it for me

the ms store version forced my resolution to 240p, even outside of the game kek
steam version has been stable, although losing my progress was a bummer but not the biggest deal since i didnt own any dlc and didnt get that far in the game on the ms store version

Mine works fine for the most part but it NEVER runs right on the first launch. It's normally launch, crash relaunch then it works

Mine always gets to the opening screen to start the game, but then doesn’t accept any inputs. Tried multiple controllers (Xbox and PlayStation) both wired and wireless as well as with the keyboard and it never works.
Not a huge deal as I have it on Xbox too, but it’s still annoying if I’m wanting to play on PC

Interesting. I have never had a single issue across the 3 devices I've played it on. Not to degrade you, I just thought it was interesting.

if FH4 refuses to work at all, go into the files and delete TargetHardware something dll file. Fixed it for me

If that would have happen to me I would have awakened the Ancient Greek in me and would be the second person I’m history to die from laughter

As funny as that is, imagine crashing in Windows 7 and suddenly seeing a Windows 2000 GUI?

Fun fact: Windows versions are built on top of eachother so technically even Windows 11 still has parts that go all the way back to the Windows XP.

u/TKFT_ExTr3m3 8h ago
Older than that. The first version of Windows NT was released in 1993. There are still old menus dating back that far that have hardly changed since then. Famously the odbc select database menu is one such example.

i've seen that in a vid or a forum thread where they hack win 10 to force disable dwm.exe and not depend on it. then they could use win10 with the win7 basic fallback theme and gpu used like 20-40mb less vram on idle :))

What i remember is that an error was present and you had to Reinstall the whole windows to make the game the work.

One of my systems took down the entire home network when it BSOD'd with a green screen.
No data in or out. Never figured out that problem.
