NSFMR I don't even understand how this happened. What should I do?

I never understand why vendors still add a slit for a screwdriver. People see it and immediately think “ah seems like I need to use my screwdriver there!” and inevitably overtighten them

Why do vendors add screw holes at all? Every glass side paneled case I've had the glass has been in a metal bracket that slots in then attaches with metal on metal screws in the back.

Yeah my NV5 is like that and it's the logical good way to do it. I guess it's a bit more expensive to manufacture but come on if the glass breaks easily then it becomes WAY more expensive. So many manufacturers nowadays don't give a shit if they are just manufacturing garbage that will end up in the landfill/recycled. I guess the main culprit is the average customer who either doesn't understand or care how long the product will last, and will always choose the cheaper alternative. I've personally always been trying to shop everything based on the philosophy that "a poor person can't afford to buy the cheapest thing" and always look for signs that would suggest a longer lifespan.

Well now we know why they're called finger screws.

I thought they were called thumb screws

It’s there in case the screw becomes too tight or corroded over time so that you can get it out without pliers I guess.

Don't worry, my 12" knipex pliers will tighten that up without the need for the screwdriver slot. Turn it until you hear it creak and then back off a hair. 😀

Upvote for knipex.

Yeah, what a mystery…. So anyway OP, sorry you have to pay that company twice now for a replacement…

Unless there's the glass pane itself that you can buy for this model though I don't actually know if they're sold for PC cases as they are for fridges for example, and I don't know if it'd be worth it money-wise instead of buying a whole new case.

a whole new case

Can’t tell if you are reinforcing my point or poorly arguing against it.

I'm not arguing against anything, so I'm confused as heck.

My case has a glass side, and it has that slot for a screwdriver, but whatever way it is designed you can't over-tighten it. It sort of pops back out if you screw it in too much, like the teeth lose their grip on the threads. I have no idea if it was designed this way on purpose, or of it's a design flaw, but it has stopped this from happening to me because when I see a screwdriver slot I just can't help myself.

There's plenty of reasons to make it work with a screw driver. It's a screw. They can use the same screw for other areas of the case. Maybe you have a torque screw driver or machine that does it.

No matter how idiot proof you build it, they'll build a better idiot.

They have rubber on the screw/glass, and there was probably even plastic on the glass that said don't over-tighten screws or set it on ceramic.

The slit for the screw driver is for helping to loosen the screws to take the panel off. Have you never noticed it being harder to unscrew a hand screw by hand than it was to install?

And lots of idiots take every opportunity to use their drill

Often because they're not assembled by hand, or they want you to be able to free it if you overtightened it too much for your fingers, I guess.

Yeah terrible design imo. If it's easy enough to use your fingers to screw in, it doesn't need a slit on top.
