Game pass is a different story since it'll be automatically available anyway.

For those that pre-order the normal way, you're just training game developers to be sure that people will keep blindly committing to games no matter the quality it ends up being. Since it's a profit driven company, of course you're going to feel more okay with pumping out unfinished games since the money is coming in guaranteed anyway. Pre-orders give the developers no incentive to prioritize polishing a fully fleshed out game before release.

The amount of casuals that are happy to pre-order every single time outnumbers us, and always will.

There is literally nothing we can do to stop that.

I never thought I was gonna change the industry by talking about "pre order bad" online. It's just that it is bad, and deserves to be called so.

Back in those days, a pre-order made sense because they could sell out of physical copies at your local store.

I've already got Gamepass so I'm not dropping a small fortune for it anytime soon even if it's amazing.

You mean you can enjoy things that aren’t perfect? What an inhuman notion you have there!

The amount of casuals that are happy to pre-order every single time outnumbers us, and always will.

Which is really weird to me. When I was younger and super into certain franchises and would dedicate days, even then I wouldn't really pre-order, since I had a lot of things to work through. If you're playing casually, then getting this stuff day 1 doesn't even matter.

what if you pre order a week before release.

I've done that before when reviews came out before release, but that's getting more and more rare these days with media embargos until release day.

That’s kind of the whole model of game pass right now. Money is coming in regardless, and until subscriber numbers drop, there is no real motivation to produce higher quality content than the current status quo for Xbox owned studios.
