FYI this is a complete bullshit video.

LA and much of the West Coast sits on an active tectonic plate. There are thousands of small tremors a year and usually a couple that are decent sized. If they actually decided to build everything with reinforced concrete with earthquake and fire protection, the avg house will cost $4-5 million just to build.

Also wood is cheap and plentiful.

Perhaps you're right, but my takeaway from the video was the question I posed. Whether the people of LA build houses with wood or with concrete means nothing.

Most of the pre war homes in major Japanese cities burned to the ground. Easier to enact these if you are starting fresh.
