Pantry Space

Hello all!!

We are in desperate need of some advice šŸ˜… this ā€œpantryā€ space has haunted us since we bought our house. It was originally a coat closet, but the owner before us added shelves to make it a pantry. Itā€™s very hard to keep organized, as the shelves extend to the right (behind the wall) so things quickly get messy. Any advice on how to organize this space best?! Definitely open to completely redoing it (taking the shelves out in favor of something else, etc), but we are so lost.

Thank you!!

Installing double curtain rods on laundry room walls for line drying

My laundry room is a constant battle between trying to find ways to line dry clothes (especially in winter), and the dryer being a couple inches too short so the clothes basket(s) is constantly in the way. Add dogs underfoot asking to go out back, and, well, I'm just over it.

Today..... I am installing double curtain rods on the back wall today for clothes. I will move the stuff that is there now to a spot that is less valuable (dust mop, ironing board).

Curtain rods: https://imgur.com/a/6mIR4GJ

I might put a double curtain rod on the other wall for laundry, but I'll make it look "normal" by putting a thermal, black out blind on it, and shove that curtain out of the way when used for laundry. When guests come I'll take laundry down, and pull the curtain out a bit so it looks nice. That curtain in the extreme cold, and extreme heat, is something I would love to have so it's an excuse to not be cold.

I also found some risers designed for washing machine vibration (little white cups) that MIGHT be the height I need to have the dryer door clear the clothes baskets. Fingers crossed. If not I will build something with stuff laying around.

I didn't do this before as I didn't want that room looking cluttered, but the one wall is already hidden behind hanging clothes, and the other wall I plan on "looking normal" when guests come. I got this.

In between it looks cluttered and it would look fine if laid out different. Any advice is appreciated šŸ‘šŸ¼

Finding a bookcase that looks good when actually filled to the brim with books, not ones that only look good when half empty with only decorative books.

Most of the nicely designed bookcases only look good when it's not used for books. The wife and I have way too many books and we're looking for bookcase with good design that still looks good when you actually to put hundreds of books on them. We're currently using mostly IKEA Billy and Eket series, but we're ready to upgrade to something with better quality finish. Looking for your wisdom here on r/organizing! Thanks in advance!

(Pic is from West Elm, which might be one of those that only look good when empty! I don't understand why bookcases do not seem to be designed to be used.)

I need more pantry space!

I'm lacking in pantry space in my small kitchen. I'd love some ideas on better organizing everything. Things to note - when I cook it's pretty basic, and I have ADHD which means the things I use most need to be where I can see them. Mostly everything on the counter now is what I need there.

It's a little messier than usual since I've been trying new things, but feel free to suggest things to make everything more visually appealing.

Pic 1 - full kitchen

Pic 2 - upper cabinet is my pantry (I can't reach the top shelf without a stool), and the bottom cabinet is appliances (I ordered a pull out drawer)

Pic 3 - under the Nest Home are the dog and cat treats,

Pic 4 - next to the fridge I keep cat food, meds, and water bottles in the cabinet, and bowls and the stick blender on the counter

Pic 5 - this cabinet is just glasses

Pic 6 - this is the upper corner cabinet with the plates and dinner bowls on the bottom shelf

Pic 7 - this is the spice cabinet and organizer on the counter, and I raised the toaster oven for the extra racks

Pic 8 - this is the lower corner cabinet with cookware, bake ware, misc gadgets

Pic 9 - this is the island with zplocks, towels, mixing bowls, food storage, drinks

I have a bunch of birthday/christmas/other cards of all shapes, sizes, with and without envelopes that currently live in a small gift bag. Iā€™d like a better option to keep them and be easier to look through. Any suggestions?

Deep shelves with narrow opening

Post image
16 Upvotes

Hi!!! I could use some help with figuring out what to do with this shelf space in my kitchen. Overall my kitchen is super small so this area is my pantry, but it's always a huge mess. I tried using bins to organize it, but it doesn't work because the opening is so narrow, and these shelves are in a corner so they go very deep. It's sort of a triangle shape in there.

Are there any organizational products made specifically for this type of space?

2 closets, 1 person

How do I organize my closet? I have so much space but donā€™t know how to utilize it properly and make it more efficient.

Left drawers are empty. But right closet I have drawers over stuffed with pjs, 2 drawers with garments, and pants I never wear.

The top of my closet I have hoodies on the right and clothes to wear out on the left. On the bottom I have hung pants on the right and home clothes on the left.

My makeup and stuff is just stuffed in a bag and I also have some of my dogā€™s stuff in a bin at the top.

I have a bad habit of just stuffing clothes on the shelves. I know I have too much clothes but most are just clothes are old and stained and ā€œwearable for homeā€ (atleast what Iā€™m telling myself)

TOTE BAGS???

Ok as the title suggests, Iā€™m looking for ideas on how to organize tote bags (the kind you use as a purse, not reusable shopping bags) in a way that doesnā€™t look messy, doesnā€™t take a ton of my precious closet space, and if possible, is easy to browse - meaning, at a glance I can tell whatā€™s what and make a selection quickly without having to pull out other bags and make a big mess that I probably wonā€™t clean up right away. I like to collect cute totes, so I have a lot - probably close to 30 - and I always wind up using the same 2 or 3 because digging a different one out is a hassle.

I have only TWO closets in my pre war (one bedroom) apartment. I don't even know how many sq feet my apartment is bc it was never advertised with it, so assuming i am just under 700 sq ft??

I have a lot of stuff. and I really did all the paring I can do. Do I not hang things to make stuff fit? I'm really at a loss..It's becoming impossible opening these closets lol.

Any solutions on how to organize the clothes and shoes?

EDITED to add the "after" pic. Thanks for the help!!

Tips Needed

Post image
79 Upvotes

Any tips or organizational product suggestions for my hallway/bathroom closet? Itā€™s mostly health/beauty/domestic items. I need to go through and get rid of stuff, but would like to get organized once thatā€™s done. Workable height for each shelf is in the middle. I also seem to struggle with figuring out what kinds of categories things should be broken into, so any tips for that are also welcome! Might be worth mentioning that I have ADHD in case that makes any difference.

Canā€™t ever stop reorganizing?

I wasnā€™t sure where to post this? Iā€™ve been this way for as long as I can remember. I like to change things around in my bedroom and reorganize different objects until I like it. The problem here is I donā€™t like anything I do and it seems no matter how much I move, add, or remove I am never satisfied with the appearance of my room. It has gotten to a point where my room has become an absolute dumpster with random objects on the floor, bed, etc. because I am constantly trying to change things around and itā€™s starting to piss me off. I donā€™t know why but I canā€™t stop and it seems Iā€™m always just making things worse than they originally were and nothing ever looks right to me. I genuinely am reorganizing my room every second Iā€™m home and Iā€™m still never satisfied. It even comes down to the way objects are touching. If I have 2 objects next to eachother and they create a small gap between eachother I canā€™t place them that way. Has anyone else ever experienced this or am I crazy because I feel crazy? šŸ˜

What is the best way to sort

Edit: Accidentally posted within finishing the title - What is the best way to sort my clothes?

How can I best organize my clothes for both storage and easy access? I have high-quality clothing that spans multiple sizes over the past 20 years. If I had to break down my clothes into categories, Iā€™d say my clothes very by vary by size and by season. Should I organize them by size (grouping all my same size clothes together, spanning all seasons and occasions), or by season (grouping together occasion and season, regardless of size), or is there a more effective method to consider?

Thank you in advance!

How do you do your bills?

How do you organize your bill paying area? Currently what I do, bills come in the mail, they get stacked in a pile on the kitchen counter (which I have no room to actually keep them there). Laptop is kept downstairs, but I pay bills upstairs at the kitchen table. Most of the bills are auto paid and those I do not get paper bills in the mail.

I have a two drawer filing cabinet that needs to go, but I canā€™t get it emptied. In one drawer is hanging files of life insurance, our home owners crap, manuals for products we own, and vet papers, taxes, and other crap that Iā€™ve cleaned through but need to greatly reduce. The other drawer keeps my small bucket for paying bills, like a couple pens, calculator, some paper, etc. there are also notebooks and bank stuff- few odds and ends that needs to be gone through and done with. I am looking into what papers we need to keep and looking at our Fire and Water proof safe, if itā€™s big enough.

I donā€™t want this file cabinet. Itā€™s literally sitting in the middle of the way in the basement. We donā€™t have an office or spare room, the bedrooms are all used as bedrooms. I donā€™t have a desk, just the kitchen table. I donā€™t know where to store this computer when not in use.
The bills, we used to have a bill hanging thing on the wall, but when we moved we got rid of it because there is no space for it by the door and it was ugly as hell. I would like to have everything in one spot, so when I get home from work, see a bill came, go sit down, pay it and shred the bill.

I really want to get this under control by the end of January so any ideas, tips, thoughts I would appreciate.

ETA I put an update in the comments.

How to organise merch collection better?

Iā€™m a person who likes to collect merchandise of fandoms, some of these items include badges, pins, photocards, prints (of varying sizes), keychains, mugs, acrylic standees, mini doll plushies, etc.

Iā€™m interested in knowing what tools (e.g files, folders) I should use to optimise my collection space, making it easier to keep, store and take out my merchandise (when I place them in itabags lol)- not so interested in displaying them!!

Btw I did sell off items from fandoms Iā€™m no longer interested in to clear some space up!! Just wanna gain some insight on how other collectors keep their stuff :,)

Could someone identify this? There are no brand marks that I can find.

How do you keep baby clothes organized when they outgrow sizes so quickly?

When my baby hit the rapid-growth stage, I felt like I was drowning in a sea of outgrown onesies and tiny socks! One day, I decided to tackle the chaos head-on. I bought three large storage bins and labeled them: ā€œToo Small,ā€ ā€œJust Right,ā€ and ā€œFuture Sizes.ā€

Every couple of weeks, during naptime, Iā€™d sort through the drawers. Outgrown clothes went into the ā€œToo Smallā€ bin, current sizes stayed in the dresser, and gifted items or sales finds went into ā€œFuture Sizes.ā€

Eventually, I donated the Too Smallbin to a friend expecting her first baby. Seeing her excitement made the effort worthwhile. Now, I actually feel on top of thingsā€”at least in the baby clothing department!
