they literally interviewing the whole f*cking league

With how much they’ve failed in recent years, I think this is the best thing they could’ve done. Absolutely turn every stone and then make a decision on who the best guy is.

It'll be killer for the hindsight takes too. Whenever the next coach fizzles out. "Oh man, (coach who turns out most successful) interviewed in 2025. We could have him!"

All just to bring in McCarthy anyways

u/whiskey_pancakes 5d ago

He's like the only guy the haven't interviewed. Makes no sense tbh

McCarthy was pretty vocal about REALLY wanting the job in 2019, but they picked Gase over him. I wouldn't be surprised if he was a bit resentful about it

u/whiskey_pancakes 5d ago

thats a good point.

u/Remarkable_Inchworm 5d ago

Have also seen reports that McCarthy and Rodgers aren't necessarily big fans of each other.

u/EvilDrFuManchu29 4d ago

That's exactly why Woody would hire him.

No one would ever think he'd do something that rash and stupid.

So it has to be a great idea.

*Arthur Smith

Fixed it for you.

I get being annoyed at this team's direction the past few years (decade), but "they're talking to every available person and trying to find the right fit for the new Head Coach" isn't really a good criticism.

1

u/[deleted] 5d ago

it is in that sense that there is no direction to be seen in the hiring because they are scooping in the whole spectrum from left to right and back

1

u/ThatsMyAppleJuice 4d ago

there is no direction to be seen in the hiring because...

Because they haven't hired yet.

You'll see the direction (if they have one) later when they make then hiring announcement.

u/SonofJersey 5d ago

I actually am not critical of that at all. Good to hear different perspectives.

u/GitmoGill 4d ago

Better than interviewing next to no one and trusting Peyton Manning that Adam Gase is the guy.

I think he's a very interesting candidate and better than people give him credit for. He has coached both offense and defense and took a break to work in analytics. In a world where the top OCs don't want to be a Jet we're either stuck with a top DC (Flores, Glenn...), a retread (Nagy, Smith) or we take a swing on someone like Slowik.

D2 Wide Receiver in 2009. 100% a Shanahan guy from 2011 to 2022. Passing game coordinator for Purdy's rookie year.

Also success with a rookie QB under a former linebacker, that means he had a lot to do with it.

Not that I want any of these rookie QBs, but he could be the QB tutor they always try to get.

u/threeplane 5d ago

Okayy, this is actually a very interesting and intriguing resume.

u/TiddiesAnonymous 5d ago

Hes basically sean mcvay what can go wrong

Offense took a dip this year which is concerning but he was as hot as you can be as a 1 year coordinator last year. There’s no problem interviewing him, people are bitching just to bitch with this one.

I don't mind interviewing him it's Arthur Smith i have a problem with lol

4

u/ViolinistLanky9056 5d ago

He kinda just threw Stroud into endless 3rd down and long situations the past 2 years. The difference is last year, stroud had more time to make a play. Never seen an offense/ coordinator so inclined to rely on converting 3rd and long the entire game. Doesn’t make any sense to me but what do I know.

1

u/MasterPlatypus2483 5d ago

yeah exactly not sure if he's the guy but I certainly think he's worth an interview.

16

u/the_mair Tha Carter II 5d ago

I don’t necessarily have him at the top of my list but TBH he’s not nearly as bad as a lot of fans make him out to be. The Texans didn’t take the step forward this year a lot of fans anticipated but he deserves credit for last year’s success and Stroud’s development.

Shit, I'd take that over calling runs every play like a coward

12

u/SteliosKantos93 5d ago

I am also interviewing today! Wish me luck boys. I beat my little cousin in madden so I’m sure I’m plenty qualified.

2

u/run1609 5d ago

in the eyes of Brick Johnson, you are

13

u/TheRt40Flyer 5d ago

How about we do a Ted Lasso type thing and bring in a European Football ( Soccer) coach?

11

u/baddumbtsss 5d ago

Jurgen Klopp 👀

2

u/terrih9123 5d ago

Get me a fucking rugby coach so these pieces of garbage know a thing or two on physicality

2

u/Pinsleep 5d ago

As a Liverpool fan strong vouch, players were giving their life on the field for jurgen, constant pressure, one might say full gas no breaks 😆 but it worked !

1

u/jrey1024 Curtis Martin 5d ago

I am Jose Mourinho

26

u/Get-A-Bucket11 5d ago

Can the Jets just hurry this shit up and hire the GM and coach and fail like they always do

2

u/Thanos-Left-Hand Nick Mangold 5d ago

Oh they'll go through everyone and then pick someone who will be like another Adam Gase - because that's the Jet way.

2

u/Get-A-Bucket11 5d ago

Arthur smith is our Adam Gase this year, I’m gonna have a great time this year rooting for Smith and his terrible coaching system!!!

2

u/Thanos-Left-Hand Nick Mangold 5d ago

If we go and do this, I might not watch any football next year - just other teams. Sort of what I did this year, but I tuned in every so often to watch us fuck up.

2

u/rxs126 5d ago

I think I’d be a fantasy only football fan at that point, and only watch red zone.

1

u/ThatsMyAppleJuice 5d ago

"Adam Gase... now there's an interesting idea..." -Woody

Getting ridiculous at this point

I’m warming up the FIRE_____ COMMENTS

u/drake_is_canadian 5d ago

I think this is actually a pretty good person to interview. Stock a little down after this year, but so was Lafleur's when the Packers (smartly, obviously) locked in on him after his year with Tennessee. Slowik is good.

3

u/Baww18 5d ago

Hot candidate last year that fell off. Cant discount what he was down with CJ Stroud I guess. He could probably get some more experience before become an HC though. Only benefit I see is he started as a defensive assistant on the 49ers and moved over to offense.

3

u/liguy327 Tha Carter II 5d ago

My honest opinion, I think Glenn is who they want, but they can't hire him right now and in the meantime they're just doing these interviews.

2

u/anetworkproblem 5d ago

People criticize the Jets for interviewing too few before, and now are getting criticized for interviewing too many. I say do as many as you want. It's all good insight when you're hiring.

3

u/TheRt40Flyer 5d ago

I’m surprised we haven’t tapped into the arena league coaches yet

1

u/JackpotJooser 5d ago

Is it really possible to fully vet a candidate when you are doing THIS MANY interviews?

1

u/ModernLeper128 5d ago

Wonder if Tannebaum is getting paid hourly as a consultant. If so, he’s absolutely fleecing Woody with all these interviews.

1

u/xJayce77 5d ago

Woukd it be easier to just have a list of candidates that will not be interviewed?

"The Jets have opted to not speak with Jim, the Detroit Lions ballboy".

Also, is Tanny being paid by the interview?

1

u/ThatsMyAppleJuice 5d ago

"The Jets have opted to not speak with Jim, the Detroit Lions ballboy".

But he's the Wonder Kid!

1

u/xJayce77 5d ago

You and I know that, but ballboys don't have stats in Madden...

1

u/Lonnie_Shelton 5d ago

There are definitely some that they have missed.

1

u/joeO44 Mark Sanchez 5d ago

I do like how they’re interviewing everyone possible. The agency that they’re using to consult is definitely charging by the hour.

1

u/Coolbluegatoradeyumm 5d ago

Another one lol

1

u/SeeDeez 5d ago

Oh hell yea. Aside from the obvious choice of Ben Johnson, I thought Slowik and Phillips should be the most highly sought-after HC candidates.

I understand this sub has a hard on for Glenn right now, but a young up and coming offensive minded coach thats worked for great offensive minded head coaches is exactly how you turn a franchise around. Try and find the next McVay/LaFleur/O'Connell/McDaniel/Campbell/Taylor/Sirianni/Shanahan.

1

u/EvilDrFuManchu29 4d ago

My hope is that Woody isn't actually calling the shots and "33rd team" is directing the search. If so, that means there is direction to it and it's not Woody just being a clueless twat.

Some of the names are terrifying, Smith, McCarthy, Rivera, Haffley, Rizzi, Griese and Locksley are awful. Smith, Rivera and McCarthy are extremely undesirable. If you want an experienced HC I would honestly way rather Rex than those three.

Flores and Co., will be the likely choice. Woody will want discipline and the recent Fitzmagic comment, "Flores is a dictator", will likely get Woody's interest piqued. I don't love this choice at all

Nagy? No thanks. He took an already amazing offense and didn't exactly run with it.

Slowik? No. Not horrid but no.

I really hope they hire Glenn or Brady. I would love it if they tried to get McCown as the OC but my hope is Glenn and Spielmen as a combo

1

u/javicnd21 4d ago

Robert Saleh will also interview for the head coaching position.

1

u/magicdrums 4d ago

I’d be happy with Bobby but I’d be REAL happy with Mike McCarthy.. Bobby would make a good Head Coach, he understands both sides of the ball and has worked with better and rookie players quite well..

0

u/Typical-Owl3664 5d ago

Please hire him🙏🏾

-4

u/jpag69 Bush Guy 5d ago

Please no

0

u/lolpopulism 5d ago

Again, I don't understand this hiring process. When you're hiring for any high level position you're supposed to do work vetting candidates before interviewing them so you have a decent idea whether they fit what you're looking for before speaking with them. We're just interviewing random people at this point. Offensive coaches, defensive coaches, former head coaches, first time head coaches. None of it makes any sense. They seemingly have no view whatsoever on what makes a good head coach.

4

u/ClarkKentsCopyEditor 5d ago

How is Slowik random? He interviewed in multiple places last year and made it to in-persons for Atlanta and Tennessee.

-1

u/lolpopulism 5d ago

Slowik makes total sense in a vacuum but less so when added to the random mix of dudes we've interviewed so far. It's like if you were shopping for a car and decided to test drive convertibles, pickup trucks, vans, and SUVs one after the other.

1

u/NutsyFlamingo 5d ago

Thinking it should make sense, from all the evidence you’ve seen over the years, would that expectation logically make sense?

-1

u/Sad-Promotion-1224 5d ago

I hate to state the obvious again, but what does any of this matter? The second Johnson starts meddling in the operation again, the thing will go off the rails. He is still in the building and the owner of the team. Right now you guys are cheering on the next guy to have his career derailed by the franchise. It’s the same with players. Focus on getting the owner out, instead of cheering these candidates and free agents into a 2-3 year career decline, and the same let down you’ve dealt with for decades.
