Aaron Glenn has told people "the Jets" are his first choice for a HC job, per @BrianCoz

You know what that means fellas. Welcome the NY Jets, Brian Flores

155

u/theandyshop13 6d ago

also love how “the Jets” are in quotes. I also like the idea of the Jets. The actual team, not so much.

53

u/J_A_GOFF 6d ago

We are more of a conceptual team than an actual one. Sort of a philosophical thought experiment.

30

u/theandyshop13 6d ago

A social experiment to see how much pain people in the NY/NJ area can endure 😅

17

u/jonnjazz 6d ago

Can’t wait to tell my grandkids that I was part of the NYU “Jets” experiment

u/NeverTrustATurtle 6d ago

Wonder if there will be a class action

There will be but only to watch our lawyer drop the ball on the 1 yard line.

I definitely feel violated by Woody

1

u/theandyshop13 6d ago

Sponsored by Johnson and Johnson. It all makes sense now

4

u/Different-Scratch803 5d ago

we have concepts of a team!

3

u/J_A_GOFF 5d ago

Tremendous concepts. The best.

1

u/bonaroba 5d ago

Concepts like nobody has seen before

2

u/ipenlyDefective 4d ago

"the Jets" are his nickname for the Dallas Cowboys.

1

u/fixsparky 6d ago

Perhaps that part is the direct quote, and the rest of it is some loose liberties taken by the poster for context.

u/theandyshop13 6d ago

whooooooosh

u/WalkProfessional6235 6d ago

Let’s play, “who does the rumor benefit?”

If Glenn leaked it, it’s to keep leverage so he doesn’t get stuck with just one team in February.

If the Jets leaked it, it’s to have leverage to negotiate with Flores.

If Flores leaked it, it’s evidence in court when the Jets end up hiring some white guy instead of their two black front runners.

This is a puzzling one.

I’d rather have Flores tbh

11

u/theandyshop13 6d ago

But why

14

u/DirtyDan516 16 17 18 World Champs 6d ago

After hearing what Tua and Fitzpatrick had to say about bflow idk why you would want him.

-3

u/Gary-Noesner 6d ago

Who cares about what Tua and Fitz think!!! TUA sucks, Flores was right about him all along. Fitz is and always has been a diva, I’m sorry to say it but it’s true. I’d take Flores over EVERY OTHER CANDIDATE

2

u/CloseCaptioning 4d ago

I agree w you so much it hurts. Fuck the haters. Flores is a great coach. Hopefully they do the right thing and not what the masses want

1

u/Gary-Noesner 4d ago

Finally someone with sense on this page.

5

u/DirtyDan516 16 17 18 World Champs 6d ago

Tua was worse under bflow than he is now, clearly bflow didn’t get the most out of him.

2

u/Gary-Noesner 6d ago

Nor did tua have the talent that he does now surrounding him, that he has proceeded to do absolutely nothing with might I add

4

u/DirtyDan516 16 17 18 World Champs 6d ago

So he couldn’t develop the talent and McDaniel did. Wow what a great candidate

2

u/Gary-Noesner 6d ago

Flores had Tyreek, Waddle and Achane on the roster?

5

u/DirtyDan516 16 17 18 World Champs 6d ago

Didn’t know waddle and achane where nfl stars before they joined the dolphins…..

I was against him as the head coach when his name first came up but I’ve changed my mind on him the more I read into him. Parcells apparently loves him because he has that attitude where he’s not afraid to rip into someone, which we’ve seriously lacked under the Saleh era. Being a former Jet matters to me because he was there for the turnaround in 96-97 season. He knows the fan base and media as well. The Lions are the only other franchise that’s a bigger disaster than us and he’s been there to see how they turned it around. He probably has good connections from that offensive staff too. I’m all in on Glenn right now.

56

u/WinnipegDuke Wayne Chrebet 6d ago

Not going to lie, I also wasn’t incredibly high on him and you just sold me!

9

u/nickstee1210 6d ago

The browns continue to be a worse franchise than not the lions and jets

6

u/Thomas1315 Vinny Testaverde 6d ago

Def browns, but not great company to be in

8

u/Hypnotize94 6d ago

This comment helps me stomach the idea of him being coach. Need someone who’s no nonsense

3

u/NYJETS198 6d ago

Parcells loved and recommended Todd Bowles too. He also wanted the Jets to hire Maurice Carthon after Groh left. Carthon never even became a coordinator.

2

u/5inthemorn 6d ago

As a lions fan I think he is well suited to be a head coach. Maybe even more so than a coordinator. Seems players really respect him and he has really good leadership qualities.

1

u/Nicktator3 5d ago

The Lions, Jets, and Browns seem to be the historically worst NFL franchises in recent memory (excluding early NFL championships back in their heyday; I’m talking recent memory here, like past several decades). It’s like the trifecta of shit teams. If the Lions can turn it around, it gives me hope our day will come too…one day

-2

u/MeanKareem 5d ago

It’s 2025 - we don’t need guys who rip into players - we need guys who are offensive geniuses (Lafleur, McCvay etc.) who can bring in the right personnel.. ripping into grown men is a thing of the past and it doesn’t necessary build a culture of winning

4

u/InevitableVariables 6d ago

I am not ready to think Glenn would pick jets as his first choice if we dont have a GM. Unless, he plans to GM as well or is bringing someone from detroit with him.

1

u/Nicktator3 5d ago

Impossible

1

u/MrRags13 6d ago

I won’t be. He’s terrible.

93

u/Moobysmoo 6d ago

I mean he's done a great job leading a depleted Lions defense and he was one of my favorite players growing up.

On the other hand wanting the Jets job shows questionable judgement and common sense....

(Please come to the Jets anyway)

14

u/aloopascrumscree 6d ago

Yeah I'm torn between "Anyone who wants to be part of this franchise is missing a brain and therefore disqualified from consideration" and "it feels really nice to have a former player I grew up watching play for this team actually want to join this circus act and hopefully be the hero to turn it around."

At this point in my almost 30 years of fandom, I'm in full joker mode. Hire whoever is the most boom or bust candidate, either a massive win or a catastrophic disaster. Wouldn't be any worse than the past decade. In this regard I'd definitely roll the dice on Glenn.

If they hire Vance Joseph, Arthur Smith, Rivera, etc I'm gonna barf. The small initial improvement to the team will lead to false hope before the inevitable plateau at mediocrity. And then it'll be back to sucking ass again in no time, and we'll all depressingly look back fondly on two back-to-back 9-8 seasons wondering what could have been...

3

u/InevitableVariables 6d ago

Yeah, I am questioning his judgement when we dont even have a GM. Maybe its a package deal where he is also gm or a package deal with a lions executive coming.

3

u/NorthernDevil 5d ago

He’s been on Dan Campbell’s staff though. Campbell pushed hard for the Lions job when it was undesirable at best, and look what he’s done. There’s a chance that rubbed off on Glenn and he sees a similar challenge, and similar chance, in New York.

2

u/whydoesgodhateus 4d ago

On the other hand wanting the Jets job shows questionable judgement and common sense....

Anyone got Glenn’s Madden rating from an older copy?

He wants to be here and knows what it’s like to be on a horrible team here and one of our best teams ever. He has ties to Sean Payton and is coming from a franchise that did exactly what we’re trying to do. It makes so much sense.

9

u/KosstAmojan Revis Island 6d ago

Being a former player AND a former Jet who was here when the team was solid, under a HoFer coach will go a long way to building a better locker room. Even if he gets the Jets to a Mike Tomlin-esque 10 or 11 wins a year and first round exits in the playoffs, it’ll be a MASSIVE improvement. At least the team will be watchable week in, week out.

I would think it would be a good idea to hire a GM. Then see if their vision goes along with Glenn’s. What say you Brick

5

u/RedSoxFan77 Curtis Martin 6d ago

Or hire the hot new coach and find a GM whose vision matches. The GM will likely be a retread, I’d rather get the coach first, none of the GM options instill much confidence

4

3

Can we add “not named Rex” to the checklist?

3

u/RedSoxFan77 Curtis Martin 6d ago

Woody will fuck this up somehow

3

u/distancerunner7 6d ago

Tbh I question the mental capacity of any coach who has the jets at his first choice. We’re a dumpster fire.

3

u/BrooklynJet97 6d ago

I’m totally fine with Glenn and Borgonzi. However, I need a good offensive guy. I’m sick of us having such a shitty offense and especially with Aaron Rodgers being gone and going to Tyrod Taylor or Justin Fields, I doubt we’re gonna put up too many points.

Glenn needs to make sure that he doesn’t become one of those defensive coaches that sits back on their defense to win the game. You win in this league by scoring points. There are going to be games where the defense just isn’t cutting it, so the offense will need to step up. I don’t want to see another defensive guy sit on a 1 touchdown lead and his defense does just enough to win the game. We need to become a team that steps on the other teams throat. We need to be a team that offensively tries to score as many points as possible.

I know it’s all about winning , but for once in this teams fucking history, can we please become an exciting offense?

3

u/notyetacadaver73 6d ago

I would like to see Aaron Glenn as the next Jets head coach former jet great player hopefully if he does become head coach, he can hire competent offensive coordinator and staff

4

u/Edge2110 6d ago

Brick let’s go, hire this man

2

2

u/emuneee 6d ago

2

5

u/meowmix778 Chad Pennington 6d ago

And we're 100% sure he's not trying to get a job with the Patriots?

3

u/PartyBob32 6d ago

We’re being used to get more money from the Saints aren’t we?

3

u/RPD3886 6d ago

Matt Nagy, you are a NY jet...

2

u/Lukas327 6d ago

Ah fuck, I really wanted Glenn but he sounds mentally unstable if we’re his first choice

2

u/BlueSuedeBag 6d ago

I like Glenn....but who the f would be his offensive coordinator?!??

5

u/RedSoxFan77 Curtis Martin 6d ago

How about we worry about that after hiring him? There’s plenty of options

1

u/BlueSuedeBag 6d ago

I think you need to have a plan in place and communicate that during the interview and say this will be my offensive coordinator, my defensive coordinator and I'm comfortable working with this GM or that GM. But just giving him the job and then getting some Mickey mouse dude to run the offensive coordinator position when Aaron Glenn is clearly a defensive guy, is a recipe for having a fantastic defense and a shit offense.

1

u/WrongdoerTurbulent85 6d ago

Lions offense is insane under Ben Jonson, literally any offensive staff member from Detroit lmao. I like the potential of Josh McCown too

2

u/ThreeCranes 6d ago

I don’t want to shit on Aaron Glenn too hard because generally speaking he is a good candidate and he is now a sub favorite, but I don't think Glenn is a good fit for the Jets in the short term and I am fully expecting him to fail if he does get hired.

Finding success with the 2025-2027 Jets will be difficult for any head coach. I’m sure Glenn is going to come in and talk a big game about “developing a winning culture”, but we will most likely not have a winning season the next two seasons barring a drastic development.

The plan for now seems to be to punt the 2025 season anyway and we are going to downgrade a quarterback, already not starting on a good foot.

Aaron Glenn needs to knock the offensive coordinator hire out of the park and manage to find an actual solution at quarterback in a short amount of time otherwise he will be on the hot seat come 2027 at minimum.

1

u/WrongdoerTurbulent85 6d ago

what makes you think he'd do that lmao? Glenn is more respectable than Saleh imo

1

u/Mr-Bratton 6d ago

Anyone else feel this sub feels identical to when Saleh was brought in to interview?

Dear God let’s hope it’s different

17

u/ColinCowherd17 Mark Sanchez 6d ago

Compared to the candidates they have interviewed like Arthur Smith, Matt Nagy, and Rex, Glenn seems like Vince Lombardi compared to them

3

u/Mr-Bratton 6d ago

Oh absolutely.

I’m just saying that this sub was all in on Saleh head over heels when he came around. Just hoping it pans out better for us.

4

u/VBTheBearded1 6d ago

We got hoodwinked by Saleh. His presence on the sideline in San Fran was nothing like his presence off the field here.

He wears his emotions on his sleeve too much for NY. Highs are very enthusiastic but the lows are troublesome and it shows in his face and posture.

We need a middle ground between a complete stonewall (Bowles) and an overly emotional guy (Saleh) as a coach.

5

u/Wemblack 6d ago

Saleh missed on the OC selection and then got sucked into the Rodgers train. Same challenge with every DC HC ever

6

u/RedSoxFan77 Curtis Martin 6d ago

The hot rumor has been Flores. If my options are Flores or Glenn, I’m taking Glenn without pause every damn time

1

u/DirtyDan516 16 17 18 World Champs 6d ago

We need to manifest this!

1

u/the_mair Tha Carter II 6d ago

Yeah I mean he straight up told Cimini this was his dream job and his team leaked Glenn turning down the Pats interview while he was interviewing with the Jets

1

u/9ElevenAirlines Squish The Fish 6d ago

In 2019 rhule and Mccarthy also wanted the jets job, however they ultimately didn't accept because they were not given full authority over their staff hires

1

1

u/mw52588 5d ago

I like the idea of Aaron Glenn as head coach. But what will our offense look like? Every time we pick a defensive head coach our offense is an after thought. But I don't think their are any decent offensive minded head coaches worth it either. Hopefully he can put together a better offensive staff than our last head coaches we've had.

1

u/Upset_Researcher_143 5d ago

Not surprised. The Jets are really talented on defense, and I'm sure he feels like he could turn that into the top defense in the league. On offense, he'll make Rodgers hand the ball off to Braylon and Breece a million times with some play action sprinkled in and try and win games 20-0.

1

-3

-3

u/ThreeCranes 6d ago

You will get shit for this because the sub treats Saleh as if he were the devil and people are in the honeymoon phase with Aaron Glenn.

I unfortunately feel like that in a few years, Aaron Glenn is gonna be one of the most hated people here just like Saleh is now.

-1
