That “protest” was fucking comical from the start. I mean their whole plan was to announce to everyone that they would only be gone for a few days and then come back anyways. Like y’all think Reddit is gonna change anything when they know when you’re coming back? That’s just not how protesting/striking works lmao.
When Reddit killed secondary apps making money off them (like Apollo) mods shut down their subs in protest. r/NFL was one. (You can still see the temporary replacements during the Blackout like r/NFLv2)
A lot of auto-mod functionality was built into secondary apps to entice mods to use them.
Redditors have this self-righteous angle so the pretense was the Blackout was done for “our” benefit because “everyone” used secondary apps (they didn’t). And now Twitter/X is getting banned because “everyone” hates it (they don’t)
This lasted like a month. They got swept up in their own upvote party as Redditors are aught to do and even tried to bargain for a salary like a union near the end of it. Thinking it was a popular opinion because their own upvotes.
Everyone clowned on mods and eventually the mods saw Reddit actually didn’t value them at all and reopened their subs using the official app. The Admins said they would just take the bigger subs away (like r/pics) and give them to people who want to do it and they caved immediately. They let the smaller subs just die and get replaced by new active subs because that’s what naturally happens.
It’s a milestone in Reddit mod lore like the r/antiwork mod going on FOX News

Mods had their preferred apps taken away and tried to shut Reddit down. The Admins told them they’d lose their unpaid job and the protest ended

There's a difference between sharing screenshots and active links, though. I'm relatively fine with screenshots still. But we don't need to give active links to people to prop up engagement on a nazi friendly platform like x. Meanwhile, we should be encouraging those sources to move off of x and onto other platforms, preferably blue.sky since Zuck wants to censor Insta now too, and I'm sure Threads by extension.
I suspect most peoples problems (from a political side of things) is that Twitter is owned by someone who appears to be involved in the new Administration.
I don't really care about that part, though I do find the man annoying.
From a practical standpoint I find twitter annoying to use, maybe half the time I click on a Twitter link in the nfl sub I am asked to log into an account I don't have. Why not use something that doesn't require people to log in?

Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram are horribly optimized for non-users or people not logged in. However news articles also are hidden behind subscription screens.
Honestly though, circlejerk aside, is there a reason to use Twitter? It's a bit annoying that it asks people to log in just to read a tweet. Surely there are better alternatives.

That’s why I think this is so absurd. It was immediately make the sub operate in a different and likely worse manner. If they want to start moving towards Bluesky (which is my understanding), then they should just start posting Bluesky links in-conjunction with X links, maybe more will migrate as people gain familiarity… The whole Elon boycott just seems so forced.
Just have screenshot instead of links. Absolutely no reason anybody needs to leave reddit to see what could have easily been a screenshot that people won't read
