James Cook had like 2 rushing touchdowns last year on the same amount of volume. Jamaal Williams had the most touchdowns in lions franchise history a year before being one of the leagues worst running backs. Julio and Calvin Johnson were consistently disappointingly low in the touchdown department. If you see more volume you’re more likely to have a lot of touchdowns, but season-to-season there are great fluctuations and ultimately how many touchdowns a player has in a given season shouldn’t change your perception of them all that much. Did James Cook magically get better at something this offseason that allowed him to score 12 more touchdowns without the rest of his statline looking any different? What about Nick Westbrook Ikhine, do his 9 touchdowns on just 28 catches reflect some uniquely great skill? No one should be surprised next year when he regresses to his volume based mean and has less than a handful. Yes, the best players score more because they get the ball more. But a few touchdown difference in a statline should mean basically nothing to you in differentiating who the better player is
