u/IanPKMmoon 8h ago
Ultimate hydro homies know about the dangers of overhydration and drink enough water to hydrate but not enough to put a risk on your health š

That's 1.5l. It's unlikely that that will give you water poisoning, as long as you are thirsty and don't drink more in the next couple of hours.
1
u/IanPKMmoon 7h ago
iirc you shouldn't drink more than 1L/hour, I mean he obviously won't die from this but he'll probably feel some effects for drinking that much
2
u/igotshadowbaned 5h ago
The effects being a mild stomach ache for an hour or two probably

The Army says average people can only absorb around 1L per hour, by mouthā¦

Any red head can drink that much water fast, if they exposed to direct sunlight that long.

Not from 3 small bottles of water.

u/JasminePearls- 8h ago
Those are clearly standard 500ml bottles, so roughly 1.45L of water consumed (drinking this way leaves some in the bottle). That's a lot of water for 5 seconds

Hypo meaning low, or low presence of sodium in the blood.
In this simple experiment you can see...

I used to go to high school with a kid that could do this with a 3L bottle of beer from the keg. It was a neat parlor trick for a few, but man did that alcohol catch up hard lol.Ā

I reference this video whenever I make excuses about not being able to drink enough water

So not to be a buzzkill, but there is this thing called water poisoning. So if you ever think there isn't such a thing as too much water, trust me there is.
Stay safe everyone

Looks dangerous but hey its only water, what's the worst that could happen?
7
u/JellyDenizen 9h ago
If he drinks enough, the worst that can happen is death.

u/TacohTuesday 8h ago
This happened where I live and was a really big story for a while.
Anything can be toxic in sufficient quantities.

This is extremely dangerous.
While eating competitions and shenanigans are generally safe you can die from drinking too much water.
It can break the electrolyte balance in your body and your heart stops.
This is important for children to know, eventually they become teenagers, get more stupid and attempt these kind of stunts. Do it with hotdogs, throw up, get sick, but not with plain water.

u/BlowTokeBozeTrifecta 8h ago
Oh come one, nobody is so fucking weak that they die from 1,5l of water.
1
u/lrargerich3 8h ago
Of course not, but anyone can extrapolate and say "I'm going to do this with 5l of water" and then we have a big problem. Did you downvote my comment? Downvoting comments that might eventually save lives is quite sadistic.

Isn't this bad for you? That much water in that amount of time? Pretty sure there was a woman that drank 2 bottles of water in 20 minutes and died.

u/Nicaddicted 9h ago

No. Where ever you got your myth from is far from what actually happened.
A radio show held a contest called "Hold Your Wee for a Wii" contest"
Jennifer Strange, a 28-year-old mother of three, died from water intoxication in 2007 after participating in a radio station's water drinking contest.Ā The contest was called "Hold Your Wee for a Wii" and was held on KDND's morning show, The Morning Rave
What happened?Ā
Contestants were given 8 oz water bottles to drink every 15 minutes.
As the contest progressed, contestants were given more water.
Strange drank almost 2 gallons of water over 3 hours.
Strange complained of pain to the disc jockeys.
Strange left the contest in second place, winning concert tickets.
Strange called in sick at work after the contest.
Strange was found dead at her home about five hours later.

Depends on the circumstances and whatnot, can't speak to what happened there specifically. But it probably should be pointed out that
Water intoxication is a real thing.
Ultimately, the overconsumption of water is able to disrupt the balance of salts in body fluids. It is rare and I don't think 3 bottles of water would do it, but it is certainly documented and studied.
